Chris Leben agrees to replace injured Wanderlei Silva in UFC 116 co-main event

Fresh off a dominant win at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale, Chris Leben (20-6 MMA, 10-5 UFC) has agreed to replace injured Wanderlei Silva (33-10-1 MMA, 3-5 UFC) and fight Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-1-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in the co-headliner of next week's UFC 116 event.

:fire was looking forward to Wandy Vs Akiyama more than the main event. Leben is a good replacement for such short notice. Wasn't Leben almost on his way out in his last fight my memory is **** but i thought he got off the hook?

Still a very good card though Pellegrino Vs Sotiropoulos should be a cracking fight.

    aww.. :wtf
Wanderlei is the main reason why I wanted to see this card. Dont get me wrong, Im looking foward to the main-event... but Wanderlei/Akiyama was going to be awesome. I dont even want to watch the event anymore. I may just sit this one out like I did 115.

Why didn't they pick Munoz instead?

I think that guy deserves a shot at big time.

No HUGE deal. Obviously Leben doesnt provide the credentials Wanderlei does but hes no less an exicting fighter. This guy just wont go away last year he had lost 2 straight including being embarrasingly choked out cold in his hometown to Jake Rosholt this after being caught for steroids and serving a few days in jail now all of a sudden hes got a chance to win 3 fights in a row here in 2010 and make himself relevant. Classic Leben the guy is just so damn tough hes always sneaking that big head back in some way or another.

Bummer. That was going to be a cracking fight. At least it will be fun to watch Sexyama bash Leben's face in.

I really like Akiyama and am glad he's not coming off a year's lay off to fight Wanderlei, he should win this fight and it'll help get rid of some ring rust. Ironic that he deliberately waited for Wanderlei and then ends up getting Leben anyway.
