By Dave Meltzer This content is protected " Lorenzo Fertitta is resigning from his post at the president of Station Casinos to work full-time in expanding UFC." So that was it ? Fertitta , working full time , 100% dedicated to mma... continuing..... "Fertitta is leaving a post where he was the second highest paid casino executive in Las Vegas in 2007, earning a total of $113.8 million. Frank Fertitta III will become the man in charge of Station Casinos at CEO and retain 45% ownership in UFC, while Lorenzo Fertitta will work alongside Dana White as the co-heads of UFC. The announcement will be made in ten minutes to UFC employees." http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/5710/105/
Wow, I'm incredibly underwhelmed. Dana White has to stop with the "big announcements" unless they are actually big. Regardless of the impact this might have internally in the UFC, do the fans really give a ****.
And I can only imagine how control freak Dana is going to like having the "big" boss making day-to-day decisions now for the UFC. Instead of Dana getting financially backed by some higher rollers and otherwise left to do as he wishes, he's going to have to actually work with someone. They may be the best of friends now, but when you have two powerful people trying to steer a ship, it doesn't always work out so well. This ought to be interesting. Dana the egomaniac may say it's great now, but 6 months from now, he may be singing a different tune.
I can see why it's big. With only minimal involvement, Fertitta helped turn the UFC from a company worth two million dollars, into what it is now. He turned his families casino business into HUGE money (dude made like $120 million dollars, alone, last year out of it). This guy can help the planned expansion in numerous ways - ways that Dana White's trailer park charm wouldn't work on.
It's not that big for us, now. But it is a huge change for the UFC. This means someone other than Dana is going to be a considerable mouthpiece for the UFC, and Fertita has huge connections to all sorts of business and can get things done much quicker and more professionally. If they want to go global, he is the guy they need to do it.
