What are the best drills to improve defense a lot?. Im more of a boxer than a slugger but i have power too. I just want to be hard to catch in the ring. appreciate the help.

circle around the ring on your toes and switch from left to right for a three minute round and do that a few times depending on how many times you want to do it

What about a taller guy? How do you defend against him? Moving around the ring wont work that much.

well for a taller guy, you basically gota learn to work the inside. most tall boxers are outboxers so therefore most people with the height disadvantage should work in the inside occassionally. one method is when getting hit by jabs or whatever, learn to weave efficiently. therefore say if you get hit with a jab, block it and when he tries to throw another punch, weave and move in and go for an infight with some hooks and uppercuts. b/c once u get inside, youll mess up his rhythm, well depending on the fighter most of the time.

An example of great defense in my opinion is winky wright.
Floyd Mayweather...more of a runner than a true defensive fighter. just an opinion though.

Put yourself in positions where you have to block and dodge within close quarters. When you're working defensive too, try to make your partner wear smaller gloves but to hit around 50%.

This allows you to block the shots which normally wouldn't get in.

I.E if you can block or dodge 8 ounce gloves moving at you, you can dodge 10 ounce gloves easier, or 12 oz. etc

One drill I like to do is as follows: One of you throws a jab, which the other guy deflects away with his right immediately followed by a return jab, which the first guy then taps away with his right, pause, then begin again. Have the same guy initiate the exchange every time for a round, then swap over. Do that for a couple of rounds every training session and you'll soon improve your ablity to see and defend against the jab. Just make sure you dont get too automated, switch up timings slightly and start throwing feints to make sure you arent just predicting the jab or over-extending and exposing yourself when you go to tap a jab out of the way.

i got put on me arse against a 13 yr old international but no shame in that
when i move the kids about i take note of the good ones an stop doin it wif them:lol:
but some kid got frustrated cuz i was pullin faces at him when he was missin so in a big rant he took 1 glove off an lashed it
i followed him to apologise 4 embarasen him
n he turned round n cracked me fkin nuts the cheeky bugga
iv also fell out the ring but theres not much 2 that 1
i was runnin round like a dick head n backed up in a corner so i could slip a few
i ducked a big right hand and he followed thru with his body n sent me thru the ropes
thats about all i dont get hit that often
:huh unfortunately wen i fight i dnt hit back 2 often tho

To improve guard, I saw a guy hitting the floor to ceiling ball with a 1-2 standing close to the ball so it would come back and hit his face if he didn't keep his hands up. I do not train myself so dont know if its worth while but makes sense to me.
