I train spar / train with contacts. I see better with it of course but I can see good enough without them if it's really needed.

Wear contacts. Eye drops helps to make sure they don't come out. Practice without them just so you are comfortable if they do come out.
I have one eye that is nearsighted and one the is farsighted so my eyesight is really bad. But I competed for over a year before I even tried contacts, so it can be done.

I've had a couple of bouts where one came out and I didn't even notice until it was over and I went to take them out and it wasn't there.

So what you're saying is you were ok without contacts, and ok with contacts, and ok with a contact being knocked out during a fight?

Dude, did you read that I have one eye nearsighted and one farsighted?! I have no depth perception, can't see at night and can't read a huge street sign w/o my glasses. I can't even see the huge clock at the gym unless I'm 10 feet away, and even then it's blurry.

But it's hard not to see a big while glove coming at your face from 2 feet away.

I have terrible vision as well, but it never bothers me in the ring.

  9. Dude, I have an astigmatism too but when I say Im blind its not far off the truth .

I cant read a book without it next to my face. I have trouble reading text msg, crossing a road at night can be an activity. I read that Joe Frazier fought blind in 1 eye at the end of his career. Atleast thats how the mythology goes anyway...

I think there is a minimum vision standard, but no one ever asks or checks. Too much hassle.

So you dont get sight tested in USA womens boxing?

I saw a real low key am fight stopped over astigmatism. Not sure that the ref knew exactly what it was but cause of the shape of the guys eye he stopped it and told him he should not be fighting.

How far can people go in the states like this , to olympic level perhaps??

I know that in the UK you cannot wear contacts at all and even if they find that you have had laser surgery its a no no ( this maybe pro Im not too sure )

Wow, I've never heard of that. How on earth would the ref know the kid had an astigmatism?

the eye has a specific shape however the ref may have had medical experience of some sort or maybe he just realised that the guys vision was bad not sure? I thought you would be tested like a basic eye exam with the basic medical. Just to be clear the ref knew his sight was bad and looked at his eyes, who knows,

The guy had astigmatism but I dont know that the ref knew that exactly,

RDJ seems to get away with bad sight , so I will ask him what is the situation with am eye testing in mens boxing in the usa?

    cheers
