I think Fury might be the only guy to get the best of Ali in this department (though Bonavena arguably did). Neither of these two were self-conscious about getting loud and repetitive. I actually think Fury is a bit smarter and just might outdo Ali here. Let's hear from non-biased, non-Ali worshippers.
Not an Ali fan. Ali was much more fluid in his speech (Fury's cadence grates my ears sometimes), and Ali's talk was backed up Simply put, Ali had a faster wit, had a better voice, and backed up what he said far better, making threats more serious Now BAER vs Ali, that would be the trash talk of the century
Kind of hard to compare trash talk with a 60 year generation gap. Kinda depends on which version of Ali, the younger one might not be ready for the ridiculous off the wall cocaine influenced highly suspect rants fury goes on. He might just call fury a blown up red water balloon and he was gonna "pop him in 10 like Big Ben". Fury would boast no one could knock him out and they would get into heated exchanges about their skills. The mature experienced Ali of the 70's would just laugh at him and let him run his mouth. Then at the end of the press conference he'd just be like "see, that boy aint really confident he can win, thats why he has to hype hisself up".
There would be pay per view for the press conference here. Max Baer vs Derick Chisorah might be interesting!
Ali was a good smack talker and got inside his opponents heads just like Fury. I personally find Tyson Fury funnier in general because he talks so much rubbish that is comical in itself. He can contradict himself 5 times over in the space of 5 minutes. With Ali he was far more calculated and personal with his smack talk. Ali was a more serious individual in general that Fury is. So Ali was the more effective smack talker. But Fury is funnier and more engaging.
True. Ali got upset by Bonavena's talk about Ali being a chicken cause of his draft dodge, cause deep inside he knew his draft dodging was an act of a coward and enemy of the state.
Fury gives him a run for his money, but Ali was far smarter and better at adapting to different situations. Ali wins
I am the farthest thing from on Ali guy on this forum, and really don’t like him. But Ali is so much better, charismatic and easier to listen to, that I can’t even make a comparison. It would be the equivalent of Ric Flair and George the animal steel....as far as the fight goes....meh, boring but Ali takes a close decision
No that is not true at all. Ali took a principled stand against the war, & put his whole future on the line, knowing the consequences. There is no evidence he was afraid of going. Nor is it rational to state that all or most conscientious objectors are cowards. Let alone "enemies of the state". Of course he was bothered by being called these things. If you were upset that someone called you a wife-beater or a child molester & did not want to be known as one, that would not suggest you were guilty of either.
He was a chicken for dodging the draft and should have been put in jail for anti american activity and national betray. Bonavena really nailed it.
Yea I guess the world should have just not do anything to stop the communist agression. Muhammad Ali, chicken draft dodger, didn't have anything against Vietcong even though they were killing his countrymen, many of them being Afro American. He wanted to start civil war in his country while his country was fighting against communism.
Hard to compare the values of the eras...H2H Fury.....remove whatever restrained Ali from being harsher than he was??? Hard to compare those that came after the master ring psychologist of his era to the original that popularized its effectiveness
Ali's wit and cleverness are highly overrated. Extremely charismatic guy but most of his more memorable trash-talking amounted to little more than junior-high level taunts and buffoonery. Fury is wittier by far, imo.
