Ok, he was offered the fight and he moved up, Ward couldn't get a fight and he moved up. What's the problem. They are still both moving up to benefit themselves. Your problem is that you are a control maniac and if things are not going the way you deem they should then you get your feelings all up in the mix. I am a huge supporter of boxing but I draw the line at bullshiit and that's all that you're bringing to the table. If somebody heard you talking in another room they would swear that you were the commissioner of boxing or someone to that effect. I will watch GGG but I want pay to watch him. Murray don't posses the skills to hold my attention.
He needs to shake off ring rust and build confidence. These guys are purely for him to try new things at the new weight, see if he can still be light on his feet or if he needs to adjust, etc. Mainly, he just wants a chance to properly grow into 175. All that being said, dragging 168 lb fighters up to 175 does very little in terms of growing into the weight. Part of fighting at 175 is dealing with heavier, stronger guys, and he is robbed of that. Also, 3 weeks to prepare is laughable.
I do realize that. But that is some rapper's money going into a fighter's pocket, and I will welcome that any day. I grew up with fighters that make pennies fighting on Saturday after working mon-fri, their struggle is very real. I will be damned before I hate on a fighter making a payday.
Because he's hardly fought in the last 4 years. It's to be expected. You couldn't expect anyone to fight Paul Smith after 19 months out, before challenging out Kovalev. Think about it. Why does any fighter have tune ups? It's to become mentally and physically prepared for a bigger challenge further down the road. After this fight, Ward should step up his competition considerably.
If you knew anything about boxing, you'd know that however good your sparring is, it doesn't replicate a real fight. How many fighters throughout the years have had tune ups? Why didn't they all just spar instead?
Ward and his tune ups, what's the point? Ward is just delaying getting knocked spark out by Kovalev, Ward is just making a few dollars before Kovalev sends him back to Oakland fighting in front of a couple of thousand fans beating up fighters like Paul Smith at a catchweight.
You don't look at things logically when discussing Ward. You're clearly not objective. You hate the guy.
It's his prerogative. Just let him get on with it, and see it as a step closer to a huge fight with Kovalev.
Maybe that's exactly it -- Ward wants so much money for any fight, so there is nothing left to pay any remotely decent opponent.
Are you going to call him that if he fights Kovalev? That will be a huge mix of emotions for you. Because you'll have to come on here and begrudgingly give him credit if the fight's signed, before then waiting frustratingly for around 10 weeks, before finally praying that Kovalev knocks him out as soon as the bell's rung.
No real money in those fights and just because you named them don't mean that they are fight that could be made. He made a decision to move up and I applaud him for that. He is going after Kovalev and I applaud that. Quite frankly, I could care less what Brand does, he is just a means to an end. He is exactly what Ward needs and who is better to make that decision, you or Ward. If you got a problem with the choice then don't watch the fight. The fight is gonna happen no matter how much you whine and complain. You might as well stop crying and move on.
If you had tickets to the event and found out that Ward was on it fighting a C/D class guy, you'd want a refund? Did you just compare Murray's circumstances to Ward's?
