Yes, he is milking his promoter. Why would you hate it so much? No one thinks Ward is top spot p4p except for a few nutjobs on here, cut him some slack. I am sure the next guy he fights will be given a full training camp and he will most likely be a light heavyweight.
Many people will criticize this, assume you are a GGG hugger (I don't know if you are) but at the end of the day, this is a 100% relevant question. 1. He already had an incredibly soft opponent 2. He is supposed to be fighting Kovalev in less than a year. Logically wouldn't you want to test yourself a bit more? 3. His recently attempted opponents were SO BAD NSAC laughed them off. 4. Said opponents in point #3 were all career SMW's 5. He is a gym rat who was out of the ring due to his own friggin stupidity (as validated by two failed attempts to fight his promoter) 6. He was even on record stating that his promo beef DID NOT PREVENT HIM FROM FIGHTING. He said it was because no one wanted to fight him.
Ring magazine is currently a sellout mag with little integrity. Jim...he is just a commentator. To any unbiased boxing fan, the p4p top 5 should be: 1. Klitschko 2. Kovalev 3. Gonzales 4. Rigo 5. Manny Pacquao Ward has not fought anyone of note in the last 3 years (I do not take weight drained opponents seriously) and at this moment has no claim to be in the top spot of any knowledgeable fan. I believe his high placement is largely due to favorable nationality, when it comes to ring magazine and Jim. His skill level was definitely p4p when he was active, but there is no indication that skill is still there, nor that it will hold when he moves to his natural weight class.
He is good, but his post was a joke. Did Carl look shopworn when he trashed Bute? Ward beat Carl with a fractured hand.
Do you want me to list everyone who has had a tune up? You're making out as though what Ward's doing is a huge shock.
What am I going to learn from you? Plenty of guys have had tune ups, and if these tune ups of Ward's leads to Kovalev, who gives a f*ck? Make up my mind about what? He was out 19 months before he fought Smith, but he's hardly fought in the last 4 years since winning the Super Six.
Fair enough. Again, let him take these fights that will hopefully lead to bigger ones, where you will give him credit.
All good things in time. Kovalev will be in school with Professor Ward soon enough since Little G skipped class. :yep
I'm copying this from what I posted in another thread because I think it's probably more relevant here. Regarding "Ward and his tune-ups", I'm not seeing what all the fuss is about. It makes perfect sense to me. He had a fight after a long layoff at 172, the first time he's weighed that much since prior to the Super 6. Now he's apparently planning to have a fight at 175 against an opponent his size who's also moving up. And logically from there, I would assume the plan is to face a legit 175'er in his final prep before a would-be showdown with Kovalev, and if everything goes according to HBO's plan, it would probably then be a battle of undefeated titans, both at or very near prime, who are battling for the highly coveted title of universally recognized P4P King. Will everything play out according to plan? Who knows? Maybe it will, and maybe it won't. But if this is the collision course both Ward and Kovalev are inevitably headed towards, then I have nothing but admiration and praise for both fighters. But maybe that's just me. :smoke
