Both titles are on the line. This fight is below the 175 LHW limit so Ward and Dawson should both be able to become undisputed champs of two divisions tonight.
You can look at it that way, but Chad's LHW belt is not on the line for this fight. Ward will definitely not get Chad's belt, even if he beats Chad.
Ward should be making 1.8-2 million and Dawson at 1.3-1.5 million. I think its a combination of the promoters they have to go along with neither of them being draws. Had this been Top Rank and Golden Boy promoting them they probably make much more.
I think with that fight they were counting on the ppv to recoup the purses, and it did such miserable business (75000 is the figure I've seen, which probably didn't cover the cost of promoting the fight) they won't put him on ppv again. This fight is regular HBO, and a year or so back HBO realised they're the only game in town for big purses, they don't need to be bidding against themselves and offering huge cash for every fight like they used too, Showtime can't come close to matching them and there is no other big chanel, so they started offering more modest sums to promoters for fights, and they can take it or leave it. The days of Roy Jones getting 5 million dollars to fight a garbage man are over. Chad Dawsons had some other big fights and bored everyone stiff in them so he isn't in the position to demand top dollar.
so strange dawson fights exciting and much more fan friendly than mr. hold crab jab, yet the purses would say the opposite :huh
