Very true. Whenever there's a fight on TV or PPV, I generally look at it's competitors for the night to make a guesstimate on viewers.
What's the big deal...? The Olympic 100m final, in Britain alone was watched by 20 Million. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19146054 Wimbledon Tennis final was watched by 17 Million viewers. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/jul/09/andy-murray-wimbledon-final-17m-viewers All box office does is marginalise boxing. Nigel Benn vs Chris Eubank Live on ITV terrestrial TV was viewed by 16.3 Million viewers.
Broner had 1.4 million viewers. he beat Khan and Nonito in the ratings. and was the highest rate of viewers this year and quite some time. those are damn good numbers.
I was expecting much higher, but that's what happens when you put two non-interesting personalities on HBO. It doesn't matter if they're American or not. I'm expecting Andre to do better numbers the next time around. Not bad for a HBO debut I guess.
