Well give him credit, at least he didn't shoot Kessler. Anytime 15,000 people get together in Oakland and nobody gets shot, it's a success.
Blatant cheating, and biased referrees have no place in boxing. Tonight we saw both at their worst. The head butts were not accidental, and even if all 10 or 12 of them were, the ref is still suppose to enforce the rules. Can you imagine a baseball game where the umpire decides that a certain batter will be allowed 4 strikes, and if he gets a hit and makes it to 3rd base, that will count as a home run? The equivelant happens in boxing with an incresingly frightening degree of regularity. So far in the super six it has happened in every fight.
Dude that is pathetic excuse making. Sorry you lost $1,000 buck, but you should probably invest your money in a fighter with some head movement next time. Kessler was EXTREMELY disappointing tonight, was at no point in the fight, and showed no ability to adapt to what Ward was doing. Crying about, and exagerrating the points pf the fight is not going to change that. Keith
This fight was a joke. Ward has skills, but I can not give him any probs beyond that. He is a true cheat, but there is about 0% chance that Froch or Abraham, if they were to meet in the semis- fight him in Oakland after what just happend last night.
Another ****ing idiot newcomer to the sport. Great. Just what we need. Tell me sweety, where does it say intentionally head-butting your opponent is within the rules and 'part of the sport'? You absolute ****ing tool.
To be honest, I think they would allow Ward to fight like that in Europe. Reminded me of a skilled Hatton. Kessler didnt like getting one or both hands tied up followed by punches on the break. No reason Kessler couldnt have been more aggressive on the inside though. Other than the holding and headbutting, Ward had good skill. Just hate to see him win fighting that dirty though. I just hate to see a style where the fighter not only constantly ties up, but also gets their only good punches in out of a break. Ward did enough to win by far, but I would respect him more if he won without dirty tactics, and he very well should have, making the fight much more of an accomplishment for him. Looking forward to Dirrell Ward...
If Kessler thought he was being fouled he should have fouled back, this however wasnt the problem....the problem was he didnt have an answer for Wards PUNCHES
Speaking of Hatton, there are many posters I see here that have bashed Hatton for holding. But when Ward does it...... :smoke
It was a dirty preformance but I don't think it was as bad as people are making it out to be. Ward is a very frenetic fighter; energetic and he does seem to almost flail about quite a bit. His footspeed and body movements make him very hard to rpedict, and with him swtiching rightly to lefty and throwing shots from all angles i'm not surprised about the amount of contact. I HONESTLY didn't note that any butts were intentional, i'll have to rewatch the fight maybe. On the holding, I thought Ward was using it well to stop Kesslers momentum and to sap his energy. I personally didn't have any negative feelings about it during the fight; it never annoyed me or took anything away from the fight for me. All that said and done, i think Ward could have won with a cleaner and more clinical approach; he clearly had the speed, movement and technique to trouble kessler badly.
