What makes you think he will have the stones to take on Kovalev? He was very eager to take on someone 2 weight classes below but when questioned about when he will face Kov his answer is "what's the rush?"
Is Ward a very good fighter? Yes. Do his wins years ago all on home turf make him p4p top 10? Not for me.
Why did Ward and Dirrell enter a tournament knowing that they would have to fight each other at some point?
He's a coward, pure and simple. He ran away from Bute, ran away from Stevenson and is now going to run away from Kov.
HOW!?! HBO made him move up to 175 as part of their fight deal with Roc Nation and Ward. He could no longer make 168. If he had of fought these guys it would have been at a catchweight. Remember all you guys hate catchweights now:hey.
Didn't now about him ducking Bute, but I do remember how he was "Against" fighting Dirrell in the Super Six.
They were homies don't ya know? You can add Hopkin to that list History has shown us time and time again hell will freeze over before Ward finds the stones to face the 175 monster
Andre Ward wasn't eager to fight Dirrell in the Super Six, because they were friends. But he was up for it. Then Dirrell pulled out of the tournament when he was supposed to fight Ward next. How did Ward duck him? Dirrell's the one who left the tournament and had one tuneup fight in three years ... while Ward was beating Abraham, Froch, Dawson, etc. You guys either didn't follow boxing then or have Alzheimer's.
That's a nice story. Maybe I'd have bought it if Ward didn't avoid Andre's brother with the same excuse: not interested because they were like brothers. Anthony was his mandatory and was pressing for the fight. Ward flat out said he wasn't interested because they were close. Immediately after that, he pinned it on the networks not being interested. That was quite considerate of him considering he pursued multiple fights they shot down afterward.
It's not a nice story. It's true. Andre Dirrell pulled out of the Super Six and only fought once in three years. The Dirrell brothers wanted no part of Andre Ward. Ward was the dominant fighter on the U.S. Amateur team when they were all coming up. He beat the hell out of them regularly in the gym. Once Anthony got a gift number-one rating, he sat out for almost two years (because he was afraid he'd lose if he fought anyone with a pulse in the meantime) waiting for Ward to vacate ... because Ward kept saying he would (but didn't). Finally, Ward dumped the belt and it took Anthony Dirrell two fights just to get a win over Sakio Bika, who everyone beats, to claim the vacant title, and then he lost his title to Badou Jack, for God's sake. He's the guy you're claiming Ward "ducked?" I can't stand Andre Ward. I run him down all the time. But he didn't duck either Dirrell brother. Hell, Andre Dirrell claimed "brain damage" to get out of fighting Andre Ward. If a guy claims he can't fight you because he has brain damage ... you aren't the one ducking him. :hi:
