Ward took a lot of shots from a guy who was stepping WAY up in class. Ward is great, but he looked a bit busted up. Barrera fought an incredibly predictable fight as well. Ward proved he can hang at 175... but I think Kovalev is going to hurt him.
I would tend to agree with him his accuracy was off he looked tired late. With that said even with a b- performance he almost shut out Barrera.
Ward missed a lot of right hands and some of them weren't even close. He definitely looked a little rusty to me.
I think in the beginning he definitely looked rusty, didn't look nearly as fast but maybe midway into the fight, looked good to me.
Whats wrong with the right hand? No right hands. Decent fight for hard core boxing fans but now can people see why Ward doesn't appeal to casuals?
He landed right hands what fight were you watching? The left hook was landing all day so he just went with the easier option.
I would give him a C since he was fighting a severely inferior fighter and still got tagged and missed shots. I think he lasts maybe 4 rounds against the KRUSHER before going to sleep.
He landed some short right counters but missed some looping right hands and was off balance when they missed. Barrera just was't quick enough to take advantage.
The same fight Roy Jones and Max Kellerman were. And they noticed it also. Barrera was lined up for it all night.
He started slow but picked it up some as the fight went on he looked good but a little rusty and sluggish and would really would benefit from another fight before facing Kovalev. Put both on the same card would be a smart move but Kovalev is looking at fighting in Russia and if that happens I don't see them sharing a card. If Ward was to fight again and look sharp in it I'd pick him to beat Kovalev but the Ward that fought tonight probably gets beat by Kovalev.
Sounds like your talking about a car. atsch Tuning is done in the gym. And timing varies from fighter to fighter so just because one dude is easy to time doesn't mean everyone will be.
