Golovkin has never rehydrated as low as 165. The lowest on record we have for him was 168 vs Proksa a few years ago.

    Golovkin 173 - Rubio 181

    Golovkin 170 - Macklin 170

    Golovkin 168 - Proksa 166

And I remember reading that he was 167 for Rosado somewhere but I can't find the link now.

I've heard others say he was over 170 for one of his more recent fights too (might have been for Murray can't remember) but I couldn't find anything to confirm it.

I don't know but I definitely remember reading an article where it was said he weighed 167 for the Rosado fight.

saw a pic of Golovkin & Alvarez side by side from a few years ago. Triple G is taller but Alvarez is considerably broader. Oscar going on about the weight advantage Triple G would have is a duck. i think he could make 155 the same as Canelo, just chooses not to. they're on the opposite ends of the spectrum insofar as stamina. go figure.

Canelo doesn't have to fight GGG as he is not campaigning for the MW crown and there are enough interesting fights at 154 to be made.

Also, Canelo has proved he will fight anyone and should be given the benfit of the doubt.

Why should Canelo move up to fight GGG right now? GGG should move up to 168 and fight Ward then.

You're not off 3 pounds since a) he was 170 for Macklin and b) in the very post I was responding to you were whining that someone was using a sample size of 1. Now you want to use ONE FIGHT too, only this one was years ago. Your agenda could not be clearer.

Ward is significantly bigger than GGG (or Canelo), maybe GGG can blow himself up with some muscle to match his weight but NATURALLY Ward is the bigger man, it's just the truth, there's less disrepancy between GGG and Canelo though, they're roughly the same size with GGG perhaps being a bit bigger.

Yeah, GGG sometimes bulks up for some of his fights, so he's already putting on muscle and STILL fights in the middlweight division. Ward is a natural super middlweight and can EASILY go into LHW division with just a little bit of bulking.

if that is the case then Ward needs to fight Kovalev.

the only interesting jmw fight left for Canelo is vs Andrade. i didn't say he should or has to fight Triple G 'right now'. i said Oscar's excuse about it is a duck. Canelo hasn't even made it all the way down to 154 in a while.

From a 2007 interview with Andre Ward

'GM: How long do feel you will fight at this weight?

AW: I’m not having any trouble with it. I have to be conscious of what I am eating. I mean I always have been. The last week we have to watch carefully. Nothing too strenuous. I feel I won’t be here too long. I walk around 180. I can get to 185 if I stopped training but I rarely do. I’m walking around 180; to some people they say ‘Oh you should fight at 160.’ But I’m not going to kill myself to make 160. If you know how to fight, if you know how to box, a guy can be bigger than you and it’s not a problem. I’ve been doing this long enough to where I know how to offset that.

'GM: If you had a choice between a long title run at one weight class or being a multi-division champion who has a couple fights, picks up a belt and moves on to the next weight class, what would you choose?

AW: That’s hard to say. Time will tell but if I had to say I’d say move up in weight. I kind of like that scenario. I kind of like winning a few times and then moving up and meeting a new challenge. I think it’s healthy for the body as you get older and I think it helps. I look at what Bernard did it’s unbelievable but how much damage did he do trying to make that weight year after year after year? Then he goes up to 175 and looks like Superman physically and even performance wise because his body was craving ‘Just feed me. Just let me fill out. Let me grow.’ And he finally did and I think it showed. I don’t want to stay at one weight class forever when I know deep down I should move up. I kind of like the latter scenario. Possibly winning a championship and moving up a few times. I’ve always kind of liked that. Like Floyd. He may not have always had the best performances but you got to admire what he did. He’s not a 147 pounder by any means. Size wise he’s really a natural 140 pounder. But just to see what he did it’s exceptional. Exceptional. You have to respect it.

GM: How high do you think you could fight?

AW: I play around at times. My dad was a big man. My mother is 5’8”. I do believe that possibly maybe a fight or two, maybe a fight at heavyweight. Hard to say. Just the way the body feels, I still feel like I’m growing. I may be getting a little taller. You hear different scenarios about when people stop growing. I really feel like I am still growing and I know I am going to fill out in time. It may be a Roy Jones/Mackie Shilstone type thing where you bulk up for the right fight. The right situation. It may be time to go for it. You never know.'

    From 2010

'Anson Wainwright – If you win your next fight with Abraham you will meet either Carl Froch or Glen Johnson in a unification fight. What goals do you have in Boxing?

Andre Ward – I want all the belts at 168 and I’m prepared to put in the work to go get it. It’s going to be a lot of work. There’s still a lot of work in the division but I’ve always wanted to be a multi division champion and after the Super 6 and possibly a Bute match, I’d love to go to Light Heavyweight and conquer some new things and win some titles at Light Heavyweight and even Heavyweight. I know it sounds crazy, I’m at Super Middle but I think at the right time, right scenario later in my career 31, 32 like a Roy Jones build yourself up, put 25 pounds of muscle on. I think it could be done but it would be a one time deal. There’s no way I could consider fighting at Heavyweight (Long term) that’s just not reality. But in the right situation later in my career my body can fill out and I’m able to put some extra muscle and end my career on that note.

Anson Wainwright – What weight do you walk around at between fights?

Andre Ward – I can’t tell you that! Ha-ha I can’t reveal. I don’t talk about my weight or what I walk around. I’m comfortable at this weight. I have no problem coming down to 168 at this point.'
