Ward has no intention to fight Kovalev. He's fighting Brand for his WBF belt.

Why would a world class fighter need 3 tune-ups to fight somebody? I call it BS, all Ward is doing is stalling until he gets his hands on that precious WBF belt, then he'll have to renegotiate the fight with Kovalev for 2023

This is the big point that always stuck with me. p4p #1 fighter needs THREE tuneups? When in the history of boxing has any other p4p #1 or 2 needed that? If Floyd, Roy Jones, Oscar, Mosley, etc had ever uttered those words they'd be crucified. Ward is also a gym rat and not some Maidana or Broner that get out of shape after fights.

I think the fight is gonna happen (not in November) but it is really odd. THe Kovalev fight was simple to negotiate, but every other Ward fight over the last 5 years has been brutal to get done... doesn't really add up so I see why there are doubters.

What was the point in making this thread?

Why are you asking stupid questions?

He's only fought 4 times in almost 5 years.

    He has to be sharp.

He fought Smith after 19 months out, and Barrera after 9 months out.

Why do I need to explain this to you?

This forum has gone to sh*t.

So you agree Ward's resume is thin. Glad you finally come to sense, an injured Kessler while doping with Conte and a limited brawler Froch is nothing special

Its more like YOU have no intention of giving Ward credit for anything he has accomplished in his career, as a result nobody gives a **** what you think!

Your average fighter who's active doesn't need 3 tune ups.

Under different circumstances, Andre wouldn't have needed 3 tune ups.

Unfortunately, due to injuries and contractual disputes, he's hardly fought within the last 4-5 years.

Edwin Rodriguez was a tune up after 14 months out.

Paul Smith was a tune up after 19 months out.

Sullivan Barrera was his first official fight at LHW after 9 months out.

It wouldn't be in his best interests to fight Kovalev right away after being so inactive.

Personally, I'd like to see him fight another few fights before taking on Kovalev next year.

atg number hw has just 2 tuneups to return to his same division, and got beat.

three isn't too much, ali might have won had he had the extra one, and he wasn't moving division.

u've still yet to explain why u are flooding your new thread with a rash of freshly created alts.

I want to see the fight. Obviously, it is a great match up, intriguing somehow. But considering Ward's history, I will believe the fight will happen when I hear the bell and Ward is in the ring.

Paul Smith wasn't taken as a specific tune up for Kovalev. It was just a fight to get back into things after 9 months out.

There's nothing wrong with Andre fighting Barrera and Brand before fighting Kovalev.

It's the most sensible thing to do after 4-5 years of inactivity.

Does he even have choice anymore,I've seen Ward on you tube say he got a good lucrative deal for three fights on the basis that he fights Kovalev, only he knows after his next fight if he feels still good enough to face Kovalev, not sure he was buzzing after his last fight despite the crowd loving it.
He won't get any stick from boxing fans should he lose to Kovalev,I see this fight as an old school fight very much like the recent Thurman v Porter, incidentally I not seen any bad press for Porter either?
