Ward has no intention to fight Kovalev. He's fighting Brand for his WBF belt.

2 tuneups at the full 175 lbs limit. If you don't know why you don't know boxing.

Brands a 168 fighter, he should have really got an actual light heavyweight for a 175 tune up

It's more for him. He needs to shake off the ring rust, he needs to get his speed and timing down at 175. He needs to believe he's 110% before facing Kovalev. And I'm all for it, I want both men 100% and confident. No ring rust, no one sluggish from weight or layoffs, no one doubting themselves.

Why would anyone want Ward to jump straight up and face kovalev and be rusty?

I dont know much of brand but if he is a 168 fighter i think its a bad move. A tuneup for a light heavy fight fought at 168 makes little sense to me. Atleast he has the barrera win which is very good

Idk much about Brand either, the fight is at 175 I believe, and I believe Brand has been fighting there. Not sure though.

OK Virgil... thanks for validating that the Dawson win was total garbage then! Thanks also for admitting that you were trying to get another garbage win by fighting GGG at his first fight at Supermiddle.

It goes both ways. Virgil is an idiot.

Brand is all Ward could get.

Cleverly and a host of others all turned him down.

The fight between Ward and Kovalev is in the HBO contract. Ward can't run from Kova...

He has such a stellar record with contracts and all, no need to worry about Ward honoring a contract......

Well Shabransky, and another name guy didn't want to take the fight according to Virgil Hunter. Giving Ward the benefit of the doubt. He will get more work from sparring though. Opponents like Brand don't do sh!t to help you prepare for Kovalev. And if Brand is really as bad as they say. Like getting whooped in Sparring by some guy off the street. Hunter should really be ashamed of himself. HBO should be ashamed of themselves for even airing this garbage.

This is my problem with the Smith and Brand picks, Barrera was a good opponent and good performance by Ward but Smith and Brand are poor choices from a lighter division.

If he intended on fighting 168 fighters then he should have stayed at super middleweight.
