Ward is an exceptional talent, that I can agree on, but the pressure that GGG puts on fighters, his power, his balance and how he is always in a position to throw punches (not to mention his ability to take a shot), would be a nightmare for Ward. Ward doesn't have the power to keep him off, eventually he'd wear himself out from clinching all the time and eventually he will get caught. And once GGG catches you it's either you're a goner or you are on the way to being systematically broken down very soon. Golovkin stops Ward late, IMO. Rounds 9-11.
Disagree, I think Ward beats him on points. GGG shuts the ring off brilliantly, it's one of the major factors in him barn storming through everyone he's faced so far. But could he shut the ring off as effectively gainst someone who is a master at controlling distance and range in Ward???? And then even if he could, Ward is the naturally bigger man and arguably the best fighter on the inside in the sport today.
Ward has plenty for GGG. He's smart, strong, fast and one of the best boxers out there. He'll need a couple tune ups tho.
Ward does have power, it's like Floyd type of power, he's not a knockout artist but it's enough to stop most guys in their tracks, especially with that stabbing jab to the body. My biggest concern in that fight for GGG is that Golovkin won't have his way on the ropes as he has with other opponents and that was shown in the Murray fight, early on Murray just jumped into a clinch whenever he was trapped and it was quite effective, Ward could really neutralize Golovkin like that. Also, Murray was able to move off the ropes a number of times quite easily, Ward will be much better at it. Unfortunately, I think GGG has a chance but it's only a good puncher's chance really.
At 168 ward is the toughest fight out there for GGG and GGG is the toughest fight out there for Ward. Ward has the combination of size, speed, skill, defense and intelligence which would make him a lot more difficult to beat than any of GGG's previous opponents. GGG has the combination of power, skill, chin and intelligence which would make him more difficult to beat than any of Ward's previous opponents. Pretty much a 50/50 fight imo.
I think Ward has underrated power. I don't know what type of condition Ward is in right now, but I wouldn't pick GGG over Ward a motivated, prime Ward. Right now, maybe. Ward hasn't fought in what, two years??? GGG actually might want to make the fight right now with Ward. It would probably be his best chance.
Nothing for Golovkin, what a ridiculous statement. I'm a much bigger fan of GGG than Ward but I think Ward smothers the hell out of him and beats him up on the inside. Golovkins inside game is lacking
Yeah same I think Wards size advantage will help him in the clinch and will ultimately decide the fight
Would be a bad move for GGG to move up to SMW fighting guys who fought at 175 in the AMs, considering GGG has not weighed over 170 for his fights at MW. Meaning. Golovkin would be forced to ADD 8-10 lbs of MUSCLE mass, something he can't simply burn off in the steamroom for a payday fight with Cotto or Canelo. In other words, once Golovkin goes to SMW, his MW career is OVER. And where the paydays at 168 gonna come from???? JCCJr who probably won't make the 175 limit for his Fonfara fight??? Ward??? Can't draw flies in his backyard full of dog shiit??? Froch??? Even though Froch is a HUGE payday for Golovkin, what makes us believe that Froch is gonna take that fight when he's already tossed the idea in the trash when GGG won his poll, and Carl has said himself, in no uncertain terms, NO to a GGG fight.atsch
Ward-Golovkin is probably the most sought after fight for we hardcore fans after May-Pac. I hope Ward fights and looks good a couple times this year to stoke the interest even more. It would be a damn dog fight. GGG would be a slight underdog and deservedly so. GGG has a little more business to conduct at 160 in the mean time.
