At the time Froch was reserving a venue and trying to negotiate the fight and Ward was trying to fight other fighters and Dino said Froch was going to duck Ward when Froch seemed like he wanted the fight. Dino's a fanboy who can't take facts as they come and be objective. Ward could of gotten stripped and Dino would of said Froch ducked him especially if Ward got the other fights made instead of fighting Froch. If you would also notice Ward says one thing that make it seems he wants the fight and Dino acts like it's set in stone but when Froch wants the fight and Ward is trying to fight LHW Oost Froch is ducking Ward.
It's sad what "features" factor in for some people to support certain fighters. I'm American 2 prospects I support are Shabransky and Errol Spence. I was a Andre Ward fan also but his inactivity and ego won't gain any support from me while Dino hangs off his ballz. Froch fights everyone everywhere and while limited usually finds a way to win. What's there not to like if your a boxing fan in a active fighter.
Listen up son. You don't know anything about me. Im a fan of Froch just as much as I am of Ward. Froch said outright he wanted no part of Ward in an interview to Paul Dempsey shortly before the WBA ordered the fight. Froch just vacated the IBF , ducking DeGale. His image and reputation would be in tatters were he to drop his remaining belt. Froch can say whatever he likes. He does not want to face Ward again. Ward was looking at opponents cos he knows that more than anybody. Froch has being jive talking Ward for years and Ward says every time he never picks up the phone ans answers. This is not a fanboi issue. This is the reality.
What about the 02 Areana ? And Ward Froch 2 would be huge Ward is more we'll known than Groves Thats for sure
I just watched it. Nice fight. Not as close as the scorecards suggest. And I didn't see a bunch of head butting like I was told to expect. I saw some punches on the break though from both fighters.
The rematch with Froch and Groves was something that doesn't happen often. Few British fighters could have ever filled a stadium the size of Wembley. Even the cash cow Hatton never filled a stadium that size even at the height of his fame. The best he did was 56K at the Man City ground and that was a post war record back then. Calzaghe could come out of retirement, beat Ward, Kovalev and Golovkin, then shag Froch's bird and then fight Froch in a grudge match and then maybe it would fill Wembley. Froch/Groves 2 caught peoples imagination, it was a cross over fight that you rarely ever see. Ward simply isn't a big enough draw or a big enough name to the casuals. Froch/Groves 2 drew in casual fans because of the controversial first ending and the fact both clearly disliked each other and were not scared to show their dislike. Ward is not known among casual sport fans, it's just another rematch like with Kessler which only did 20K. Groves is also a Londoner so this was a home town fight for him, he would have brought in many fans that Ward simply doesn't have.
They need to get Khan/Brook on the same bill as I doubt that these two would be capable of selling out Wembley.
I don't think the fight sells as well in London as in Nottingham. The Groves fight brought in locals and Groves is from Hammersmith in London, taking the fight away from Nottingham to London would reduce the attendance. There are other stadiums up north that would do like in Sheffield or Birmingham that might still see a huge attendance while not having the fight in Nottingham itself. Basically it comes down to money. The further from Nottingham the smaller the pot as fewer fans will travel due to the cost of travel and accommodation. Ward will likely push for London while Froch looks for somewhere closer to home to maximise support and the money.
Just because Ward is backed into a corner and finally agreeing to the fight. After Froch had been calling for a rematch for years, Ward has been stripped of his ranking, RING title, and the only major organization that recognizes him is threatening to strip him now if he doesn't at least try to make the fight...so now...now, he's caving in. The difference between that guy and Dino, is that guy never bet anybody that the fight would never happen...ever.
his first groves fight sold the 22k in MEN in about an hour, this is when groves wasn't that bigger name so think froch has enough support to get 40k, villa park would be good (for me!) Sheffield would work with kell brook on the undercard to draw local support, maybe Elland road with thousands of josh warrington fans. forests grounds the ideal place really, doesn't matter what part of the UK it is, very few will be supporting ward anyway.
I had a lot of respect for Ward, he proved me and just about everybody wrong in the Super 6, and I do credit him for mauling Dawson. But once he ducked Bute, refused Froch when there was nobody else,...and has sat on his hands for the last 5 years...just inexcusable. Amazing it took people this long to stop recognizing him as an elite fighter.
this is drivel. the rematch hasn't happened because of ward's inactivity. he managed to negate his momentum, and now should be 1 of the biggest draws in boxing.
