Is Wade the best possible opponent for said defense.....NO, Johnson was that opponent.
That said, Wade is just as proven as is Barerra, and while I'll admit that Ward is INDEED testing himself vs a SOLID prospect, he's by no means doing anything that might lead to the conclusion that he is some beast as the OP suggests.

Now, IF, and that's a VERY BIG IF Ward follows up a victory over Barrera, and even ENTERS the ring with Kovalev, that will be my deciding factor if he's even a legit top 10 p4p fighter.

It would be more of the same. He's ducking Jack/Bute, ducking Zurdo/Abraham, ducking DeGale/Medina, ducking Smith/Mohoumadi, ducking Sturm, DeCarolis FFS.

Not only did Team Golovkin NOT pretend to want Ward once, but 3X.

Yes, Ward made it appear a couple times that he MIGHT be interested in that fight, but NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING REAL was sent to Golovkin.

Ward's offers were just the same as Brooks, DeGales, Frochs, and Lara's.

GGG has REALLY tried to fight every top MW and LMW titlist there is.

Whereas Ward is FINALLY making a fight he wasnt FORCED into via the tournament.

Kov said their contract states if him or Ward lose the interim bouts their fight is off.

So if Ward looks bad against Barrera but still wins I think HBO will shelf him until Nov or just give him a super easy tune up #2 in the summer, perhaps Paul Smith re-match
