Calzaghe is welsh, he fought loads of englishmen in England including Eubank....americans just dont do geography do they?

 

Love that Ward's resume beats Calzaghe's when his best win is an old, double-vision suffering version of Calzaghe's best win. The Kessler Ward fought is a weaker win then Bhop, Kessler Joe fought and roughly equal to Eubank

the truth is that calzaghe didnt get (or want) his prime fight with jones or hopkins because he camped out in wales and got sledged for it - but because ward already fights out of the US, he has caned everyone in the SMW division without moving base and some calzaghe fans ARE crying foul

its the only reason he's been singled out

the US is where to go to make your career, it's only an unfair double standard if the fighter you support didn't capitalize on that during his reign...

in his first 15 fights 6 were in wales - 9 in another country

dont see the klits making their career in the usa and they seem to be doing ok.

 

klits have a monopoly over the HW division, and that didn't happen until they invaded the US and became kings

calzaghe's dominance over the SMW division is pretty similar to the klits dominating the heavies now, but the difference is that calzaghe called out bigger fish that he never pursued (and ****** was never going to), but then did nothing about it even though he was much better equipped than probably most contenders to jones and hopkins at the time

for me, the big thing about calzaghe is that he played his career low key but his ability was much higher - which is why it's such a tragedy that he 'lived a lie' for so long

he knew he was the SMW king, ****** knew it, but they milked $$ because that's what frank ****** fighters do instead of testing himself

I'm not crying foul about Ward getting all the big fights early in his career because of him being based out of the US, I'm crying hypocrisy to those who use the term "stay-at-home" as a way to bash and castigate Calzaghe while hyping's Ward's resume in comparision when Ward has shown no more ambition or drive to make the big fights than Calzaghe did.

All the big fights in Ward's career have been given to him on a silver platter, often in his backyard, he's not had to chase anyone for a fight, they've all come to him. If he was from any other country in the world American boxing fans would be all over him, shitting on his resume for never travelling just like they do with Calzaghe and Kessler, but because he's American he get's a free pass.

That's not to say that I dont agree that making a name for yourself in the US gets you the big fights - because it does - but it is still hypocritical to criticize foreign fighters for choosing to have the majority of their fights in their home nation when very few US fighters ever travel outside their borders, and in the case of Ward rarely outside the confines of his own state.

 

I see Calzaghe as the spiritual successor of Eubank. Like Eubank he had a skills that were world class, possibly all-time-great for his division, and if he couldn't beat any fighter in his divisions history then he could have given any of them a difficult fight, but like Eubank he wasn't that focused on his legacy and didn't really care what people thought of him during his prime-years, instead he was out to get as much money out boxing as he could.
