In all seriousness - what was Ward's game plan? I merely witnessed Ward obliging a disinterested Green. As a fan of Ward, you see this as a dominating performance from him. Equally, I could just as easily say that Green played the part of a submissive. Ward did what he had to. Well done. However, I think, given the massive praise Ward has received of late, he probably could have and should have done a great deal better against a nigh on capitulating Green.
If a "Just Win" attitude isn't enough (remark was made tounge in cheek I thought that obvious :! how about executing a perfect game plan to perfection for a dominant victory? Is that good enough for a "future star"? (Even though Ward's future is NOW. Olympic Gold Medalist and CURRENT CHAMPION) Boxing's in trouble because Ward won every rnd :huh I doubt it :-(
Fighting in the Clench is not illegial.. If you watched closely last night Green closed his arm against his body to tie up Ward's Hand. The In fighting had Green weak.. He couldn't stop Ward who had his head on Green's chest.. and Ward's hands were wresting free to hit Green with Body shots, Uppercuts, and Hooks to the head and body.. Like Tarver said Green should get Ward off of him cause this type of fighting does not favor him.. So what your telling me is the REF should come in and seperate the fighters cause they are in close quarters ( still punching mind you... and not illegally no rabbit or kidney punches) GET THE **** OUT OF HERE.. and you call yourself a boxing fan.. I love to see someone get mugged on the insde, get the ***** worked out of them after they talked mad **** about how they could beat you..
What was Ward's game plan? Watch the fight again and listen to the commentary, I think they did a pretty good job of spelling it out. "Ward did what he had to. Well done" I agree good
I agree ward has an ugly fighting style, but last night he did some excellent work on the inside. I just don't see how you couldn't like the work he put in last night. He kept his head in green's chest & beat him up on the inside. His fight w/ kessler was a lot different & why i wasn't too big on ward. But he looked good last night. He put constant pressure on green & completely washed him out.
I neither need to watch the fight nor listen to the commentary again. I know what I saw the first time and, if I recall, the commentary team was, to some extent, probably backing up my impression of Green playing the role of 'Sub'. Then again, they also compared Ward to RJJ and Sugar Ray Leonard so it's plausible that they'd all had their drinking water spiked with LSD.
Green came in to win and got beat bad and had nuthin' but excuses afterward that he over trained
I appreciate your view and no doubt there were and will be more excuses made by Green but I think I'll stick to my interpretation of what went down, Thanks. :good
If you didn't appreciate what Ward was doing in there you are either A.) not a boxer, or B.) a boxer with a very shallow understanding of boxing. That was old-school boxing. Ward's bringing it back. Get used to it. If he had ANY power at all, everyone (casual fans included) would be all over his dick. He's got the skill/strength to wear you down but not the shot to put you away. Tim Bradley has similar problems.
I was extremely dissapointed in Green. I accredit his terrible showing thanks to Ward's tremendous ability and improvement as a world champion. He's definitely showing that he's the favorite for a very good reason and that's b/c his VERY slow start and progression as a professional worked perfectly. I must admit I was harsh on Ward the only US Boxing Gold Medalist in 2004. When he turned pro I was on the band wagon. But he didn't fight often and for those he did fight his AM style was hard to shed. And that didn't translate too well as a pro. However.....his talent and ability shined...he was very fast, agile, athletically inclinded and of course had that solid AM experience. Being caught, buzzed and hurt numerous times left me questioning Andre's pro ability...even up to the super 6. I expected him to lose against Kessler and against Green. Ward is a great 168 lbs fighter and soild World Champion. I think he's gonna win this thing after his performance this Saturday.
