If he loses to Barrera, it will be down to Ward having not fought any stiff competition in years and maybe having jumped the shark in terms of ability.

Barrera isn't more of a challenge than were Kessler or Froch when he fought them.

Froch and to a greater extent Kessler had proven world class boxing skill - which Barrera, regardless of his Cuban amateur pedigree, has yet to demonstrate. Froch and Kessler were human and like everybody had their occasional slippery moments on the way up but I can't remember either of them being decked by someone like a Lee Campbell just a year before their first world title eliminator.
