Kovalev is not much of a businessman, He just wants to beat the snot out of people. Probably just said give me the fight and I'll take what they give me. Kind of refreshing actually. He will make Ward pay though.

Ok maybe not backed into a corner, that may be too strong of a phrase to use.

However I believe he got more than he bargained for as there is a clear pattern to his negotiation strategy when trying to arrange a big fight with someone who he is not too keen on.

I may well be wrong as we do not nor can we know for sure what has been going on behind the scenes during negotiations.

However he has never offered any of the big fighters lucrative incentives to agree to a contract. It's always unreasonable, with ridiculous clauses usually hometown advantage, him gaining the majority of the split or the opponent having to wait and fight other fighters first while he takes tune ups.

Is it any wonder why he struggles to make significant bouts?! I think and this is my own opinion, that he was hoping Kovalev would be displeased with such an offer as did GGG, and so Ward could once again go running to the media crowing about emails sent and contracts faxed yet rejected, in to indulge in bravado to his fans that yet another fighter ''ducked'' him when in reality it would be just another refusing to be low balled.
