He has to fight a decent opponent for that. I am wondering if HBO would approve somebody like a shot Campillo.
He would be nuts if he demanded heading up his own card on the same night. I'd say he's a pretty smart guy...and understands the significance of this opportunity.
Ward wanted Wembley, Froch said it couldn't sell and dismissed the idea: "Carl Froch has slammed the notion of fighting Andre Ward at Wembley, brandishing the boxer as clueless if he believes a bout at that venue would be a sell-out." Ok I know its not good business to get a venue that you know in advance you cant fill which would have been Wembley. But what about the place where Froch beat Kessler? Wasn't that a 20K capacity arena that was sold out?
He can do it with Yuneisky Gonzales. He made a good showing against Pascal and many thought he won. Yuneisky is a good sized LHW and the perfect fighter to get you ready for a guy like Kovalev. If Ward can man handle YG then his confidence will sky rocket come Kovalev time. HBO could sell that fight easily.
you said Ward passed on an opportunity to fight Froch at Wembley. He didn't. I was simply correcting the record. I get the impression you're not interested in the facts here.
He's crazy delusional 2:43-3:04 [YT]De1O9ZYSRKo[/YT] Steve Kim ‏@steveucnlive Ive never heard of anyone as an undercard fighter demanding a cut of the PPV action. Andre Ward, Im telling ya, is delusional
It wasn't wembley. Froch wanted the fight in Nottingham. It would of been a good stage for Ward to comeback on but he wanted wembley. Ward thinks he would of done better than Froch-Groves 2 and is delusional. The whole time they were supposed to be negotiating Ward was looking for other opponents and running them by HBO. Frochs team stated they would win the purse bid and make Ward fight where they want. Then Froch was stripped a month or 2 before the purse bid date. HBO had already shot down 2 opponents of Wards choosing for a fight during that time. Ward if he could of made weight could of beaten an older Froch again but I am sure didn't like him calling the shots even though he was inactive and Froch was the draw. The last SMW Ward fought was Froch and hadn't done anything at the division since. I can understand Ward calling the shots if there was an immediate rematch but you don't go on hiatus and expect to call the shots when you come back while Froch in that same time is becoming a star and you cannot draw a crowd or money period.
In order for Ward vs Froch to eclipse Froch-Groves II over in England it would mean it would be the biggest event in British boxing history. Ward doesn't just think a fight between him and Froch over here could equal it, he actually genuinely believes they could go one better :rofl They have to hand out god knows how many free tickets when he fights in Oakland for goodness sake. atsch
Wow Ward said that he feels like he's accomplished everything he wanted in his career. No wonder he is so slow and shows no urgency in getting back in the ring with top competition. He probably would be happy if he could collect $2 million fighting Brand and then retire 29-0. Are there any 29-0 boxers who retired as elite fighters with nothing else to prove?
