That would be a classic sign of a concussion, except he apparently wasn't concussed. I'm guessing he had a fuzzy feeling in that eye because he kept getting popped in it with a jab. I don't buy the "headbutt causing temporary blindness" theory simply because that requires the sort of brain trauma that we have no evidence of.
Kessler said in an interview yesterday that he was specifically informed that he would get DQed if he used any form of foul play. That is why Kessler decided not to return the **** that was thrown at him.
Maybe not a different result, but a much better fight, and no injuries to Kessler. I agree with Ringtv.com: "The headbutts added injury to insult".
OMG you need math lessons dude: ACTUAL Scorecards 92-98, 92-98 and 97-93 meaning Kessler won 2, 2, and 3 rounds, respectively.
I agree with this, couldn't have said it better myself except I think Ward isn't a dirty ****, he's just doing what many would do if the ref was looking away... I don't respect it, but it's th reality.
He told MK to let him go because MK was holding Ward's hands under his arms. Ward would throw, finish low and then dive into MK with his head and would look to clinch when he was in MK's sweet zone. I don't blame MK for that obviously, but I don't think they were intentional either. MK needed to make an adjustment and didn't. The ref for his part broke them up alot early, but after it seemed there would be alot of holding going on(by both fighters) he seemed resolved to let them fight out of it. You're told to protect yourself at all times.......MK should've done so, he took alot of shots just after a clinch.
True, Kessler should have held him like it was a vice until the ref broke them. Then timed him with uppercuts (I mean this guy ususally knows exactly when to throuw them) when he came in and used lateral movement rather than retreating in a line. Finally, he should have doubled up on the jab to make it more consistent and thrown lead rights (Kessler never does this for some reason except in the last round of the Calzaghe fight) when Ward went southpaw. Where was Kesslers trainer?
A true champion needs to be able to adapt to differnt styles. MK was unable to show a plan B or C and thus lost his belt. He better take the hint, and train better for his next opponent (Froch), whose belt is there to be won. Spring 2010 will tell if Kessler still has it. And that Froch's defense is too shitty for this tournament.
Well iam danish, and a big Kessler fan, followed him through his entire career, i was shocked with the Kessler i saw against Ward, yes he was schooled, he was desperate, confused, beaten badly. I dont think i even want to comment on the headbutts, i watched the fight with 6 other homies, and we were all in agreement that Kessler was to slow for Ward, and had no reply to him what so ever. Now what is very very interesting is if Kessler really is / was a protected fighter, and that he does not have the skills to take on top 5 in SMW, i dont think we can make a conclusion from the Ward fight, but iam sad to see my favorite fighter and countryman get beaten up like that :-( I take nothing away from Ward, and the danish commentator which was covering the fight, also gave Ward alot of credit. We should not make any excuses, but i must admit its hard to see a fighter which you believed was something special, be taken apart like that, the fight in March 2010 against the frog, will prove if he can comeback, but will not prove if he is to be considered a TOP contender. Congratz to USA and Ward for the victory, really not expected at all :rasta
Good points......The universal opinion seems to be he needs to be able to make adjustments mid-fight, and a good trainer goes a long way towards doing that.
