i think its because of his tactics, his plan was to punch and get out, and if kessler got close he would tie him up and then break free. add this to the fact that he's a switch hitter and still somewhat green. he still has many things to work on, but thats the way boxing is sometimes. sometimes you've gotta win ugly to become victorious. not only did kessler fight a better boxer, he fought a better fighter. ward knows how to fight.

Holyfield never headbutted a fighter 4 or 5 times in a single fight. And, to be honest, Holyfield's butts looked the result of a bit recklessness and his aggressive style. They dont look as blatantly intentional as some of what Ward was doing.
I like Kessler's chances with a neutral ref and although Ward might be able to win without the massive handicap of a ref like he had the other night, I'm not so sure. He showed speed, versatility but I don't think you can separate his performance from the uncalled low hits, wrapping his arm around Kessler for the entire fight, the likely intentional or at least semi intentional headbutts that changed the entire scope of the fight along with the other fouls, and the fact that the ref kept admonishing Kessler for holding, not Ward saying "let go" and Ward was firing off shots as Kessler was being commanded to let go. I know to some of you it may sound like sour grapes but just imagine how you sound to me when you won't acknowledge all the fouling and horrible reffing. Yes Kessler should have started to foul back and he disappointed me by just taking it for the whole fight without retaliating illegally and with bad intentions. He should have pulled a Hatton punch like the crap punch Hatton pulled on Tszyu or just gone all Froch on him, something, do SOMETHING. But Kessler is all class and unfortunately that is now a detriment not an advantage in modern boxing / wrestling. I like Taylor's chances quite a lot vs Ward with a neutral referee. Ward MIGHT BE the great fighter that everyone thinks he is but so far, to me, he hasn't shown it. What if every time in the fight that Ward lunged in a point he was warned? What if points were taken for butts and he wasn't allowed to hold. What would he do then when Kessler was poised to attack him? It is an interesting question. This was not legitimate inside fighting half the time, it was holding and hitting and it was an ugly spectacle to watch, not a testament to the sport. As far as the guy that said google andre ward, its being acknowledged everywhere that the fight was a foul fest, the fight everyone saw was a foul fest, some would say ward would win anyways others disagree.
atsch Call it what you want...At the end of the day, Kessler got his ass handed to him...It was downhill for him once Ward saw he couldnt adjust to his stance switching style...Who gives a **** if he won 2 or 3 rounds...He got his ass handed to him...Face it, Kessler got outclassed in a major way...say what you want to but I'll run with the fact that Kessler has a loss and Ward is the new WBA champ! Biotch!:rofl Deal with it ***!:good
so its okay for holyfield to "conveniantly" spear his opponents to the point where a quasie motto bump develops on their forehead, yet ward catches all the flack?? isnt ward the most reckless with his switch hitting swarming style?? why does a seasoned vet like holyfield get a free pass yet a young buck like ward doesn't? what exactly do you consider an intentional headbutt? when isn't intentional and when isn't it unintentional? my god you people are nuts:-(
One, yes, Holyfield butted Tyson twice, severely, in a single round. I don't think it was intentional, any more than Wards was. Second, Ward was clearly fighting in a very aggressive and somewhat reckless style. When he wanted to close distance with Kessler he lunged in while ducking low and sweeping his head left and right to avoid being counterpunched, then popped up, threw a few punches, clinched to prevent return fire, and then fought out of the clinch. I mean, watch the fight, the kid is moving his head all over the place, whether Kessler is around or not. Was he trying to headbutt air? He obviously needs to clean things up a little bit or he will get warnings and points taken, but to say that it was intentional when he was obviously fighting a VERY aggressive fight and moving his head to avoid getting hit is pretty strange. Kessler could have taken advantage of this and moved to the side, stepped back and countered with uppercuts or hooks, stepped into Ward and made him come up short, or done any number of other things, but he didn't. He did nothing. He looked utterly lost. The fact is, though, when you see a fighter with an aggressive approach and a lot of head movement you're going to get headbutts, particularly whent he other guy stands stock still, like a statue, and makes basically no effort to protect himself.
yea ok, when your done digging through all the articles with "ward destroys kessler" or "ward outclassed kessler" as the headline, then let me know. and when you do, make sure its not a denmark news article:deal
Absolutely agree. Ward would have won a UD and he would have won a boxing fight. Not a setup. BTW. I wonder why Virgil Hunter was so eager before the fight to make sure that Kessler would not complain after the fight. Virgil really was shameless and a dick.
Im not in denial. Allowing headbutts like that is bad for the sport. And thats a fact. Ward had serious advantages from round 5. It reminded me of Tyson-Holyfield. Who the **** knows what would have happened without the headbutts? I dont know. But it was indeed obvious that Kessler was slow and Ward was fast. My guess is a Ward UD. But it could also have been something else. Get your perception right.
It's all part of Ward's conspiracy. He personally hired all the judges and the ref......i think they are actually long lost brothers........and his plan was to strike fear everyone with his nickname, make them think if they didnt root for him The Lord would smite them.....but it was to distract everyone to his true purpose..... He would draw Kessler into a gimme-gimme grabathon that would surely succeed because everything was in place......but this was all just an appetizer......all to set up his masterful endgame. His headswinging, footstomping offense would surely seal the deal and maybe even get him out of the predicament he was in the fight because he was in such trouble as to resort to intentional foul tactics.......... PS- He did have an opponent in the ring that nite right? And this opponent could have exerted some will of his own upon the fight, no? I'm just asking.....because it didn't seem like Kessler did anything. he had no answers.... not for the movement, headbutts(intentional or not), clinching.....the jab, left hook, straight right.......none of it.
they wont let it go rudyard, just forget about it. all their gonna do is ignore the 140 power punches ward landed on kessler and take full notice on the headbutts. these fools dont know an ass kicking when they see one, so just leave them be and move on.
It doesnt help you to post crying smilies, dude. Just admit that its ****ed up when somebody gets allowed to what Ward was allowed to that night. Im from Europe. But I never ever backed Sven Ottke. Ward is a huge talent - and he could have simply outboxed Kessler. He ruined alot of well deserved respect from alot of fans, with the Billy goat style.
the small minority of the cry baby kessler fanatics dont compensate for boxing fans, ward won many people over including europeans. all you did was focused on the headbutts, but ignore the boxing clinique ward put on kessler. headbutts or no headbutts, ward beats kessler any day of the week. kessler will always lose to a good boxer. good thing he's facing froch lol.
