If Ward thought Kessler was the best man in the ring, he needs to get some glasses ASAP.
I'm a dane and a fan of Kessler, but Froch was the better man yesterday.
I had it 116-112 to Froch. It seems to me, that the reason Ward said that was because he wanted to bash Froch, rather than coming with his true openion of who the winner was.
Personly I hope Kessler call's it a day and look back on a great run. And is happy that
he have made a lot of money and fame, and still is healthy. Kessler is not in his 20's
and these kinds of fight take their toll.
But I think that Kessler will take 2 fight more, a tune up (in Copenhagen)and then Kessler - Froch III. I can understand why he would love that, a chance to say goodbye to the danish fans that have supported him over the years, and a final payday on neutral ground. But to quote Mogens Palle (his former promoter), what good are the $$
if you get permanent damage. Kessler have enough money to ensure a good retirement.
I can understand why he wa

Froch beat kessler without the use of headbuts, clinching, or home advantage.

Ward is bitter and mad as hell..

That Dane news outlet must have took his comments out of context or in the wrong way. Because all throughout the HBO telecast Ward was saying Froch was getting the better of him and was the clear winner. Now, from that article, his quotes are:

"Kessler impressed me tonight. His offense was sharp, his defensive is better than long. He seemed crisp and sharp. I do not know if it was a mental thing, or if his fitness was not sufficient, but I think he missed a clear chance to dominate Carl Froch tonight and possibly even stop him. He could have done much damage to him. But something held him back, and it is a shame for Mikkel Kessler. He looked like otherwise the better boxer up there"

Nowhere is he saying that Kessler was the better man. Better boxer, yes, but not the better man. And Kessler did show evidence of that, when after the 3rd round he adjusted and turned the tide in his favour. And that's where Ward feels Kessler missed out on the opportunity to capitalize. That's all Ward's saying. He could have won (because he's the better boxer), but didn't. As for why he didn't, I reckon Froch's power kept him humble. Kessler can't take shots like he used and he's slowed a lot over the years. That's what held him back.

Virgil Hunter felt it was a draw and I tend to agree - though a close decision fro Froch doesn't bother me too much. Froch threw a hell of a lot of punches and, as usual, many people translate that into him being dominant. I thought it was really, really close in there.

    he's dead right

Froch is no near the most talented or skilled boxers at 168; however he is one of the best not only at his weight but in the world. his above average punch range, improved accuracy, toughness both mental and physical and stamina are serious weapons to have in an arsenal.

But having said that, had that been kessler at his best or even a smarter kessler he would have and should have turned the tide permanently. he wasn't active enough in the first 3 rounds which cost him. whenever he threw in the middle rounds, he landed - yet he decided not to press. his left hook was working- yet he failed to back it up with combinations especially body shots.

Froch fought a great fight and was the deserved winner- but it was easier than it should have been and had kessler improved in the areas above he probably would have taken it.

Kessler was more than at his best you best believe he was in the shape of his life too, when is anyone going to give Froch credit.

There's always a but when froch wins or makes it a tough fight.

Ward said it was clear Froch had won and closed the show well.

As for Virgil Hunter how about the khan diaz fight ? Diaz clearly landed the cleaner blows on khan.

He's basically saying what most fans have admitted, that Kessler looked like the more skillful, better boxer. And yet morons will come in here now that Ward is saying it and say he's blind or some other stupid ****.

I think you aren't giving enough credit to Froch. Kessler did as much as he could have, considering Froch was keeping distance excellently at times and hitting him with the jab very often, whilst forcing Kessler to reset and unable to mount any kind of offence on a lot of occasions. Part of why Kessler looked so bad early on is because Froch was boxing very well, moving and jabbing, Kessler couldn't even get close, until he changed his mentality and started to be more aggressive.

By the middle rounds Kessler decided to throw caution to the wind and just go for it, but he was still always getting tagged still whilst having a bit more success of his own, but it only came in bursts. Froch still controlled from the centre of the ring, and popped the jab even when not landing he kept Kessler away. I mean he landed a hundred more punches than Kessler and threw almost a thousand, so his work rate was a factor this time round, compared to last time, he wasn't active enough.

Kessler I believe managed to bring out all he had left and I think he left it there, He was likely thinking, i'm gonna leave it all in the ring and give it everything, which he did, and yet Froch still outlanded and on the whole outfought and outboxed Kessler.

The article should have been "Kessler SHOULD have been best". Still I agree with Hunter, I had it a draw. I can't complain about a Froch win though. Unlike Froch, Kessler doesn't whine about hometown judges when he loses, even though Byrd's moronic 118-110 was even worse than Tilleman's 117-111 score in the first fight.

Froch has the advantage of having several thousand fanatics screaming bloody murder every time he loses away from home (just like Dirrell!), while Kessler has to contend with biased journalists, like the moron from Showtime who said Froch was taking him apart in the first fight before a punch had been landed.

Good post. Personally I wouldn't want a third match between them, not because it wouldn't be as entertaining but rather I feel a third fight would be detrimental to both fighters health and well being. Fights like these two have produced are ones that you only want twice at most in your career. Two great, great warriors and champions and a throwback to fighters of yesteryear.
