Almost everyone predicted far too high numbers, see the prediction thread .... I told you all it would do significantly less than the first fight.
Kovalev had his titles, pride and his "0" robbed from him, now he has next to no revenue to show for it. Shameful
A day or two after writing my prediction, I remember thinking it'll do less than before. It's VERY sad that it has only done 130k. Other than Loma-Rigo, this was THE best fight to make where H2H ability is concerned (certainly better than Canelo-Golovkin). Shame. Eddie Hearn is right, he'd have been able to do 300k+ buys for it. Roc Nation president doesn't seem like he knows how to sell a fight - he resorted to direct character assassination of Sergey Kovalev to make it worse. Kathy just relies on the channels built by her father and just rides off his success without tweaking the business from a grass roots level. Kovalev is about to be paid a peanut.
Ward doesnt sell. Kovalev doesnt sell. What did you expect? Regarding kovalev earning few money, that's his fault, noone else's. Anyway he never did a lot of money, he just doesnt know how to sell himself. He should have gone full golovkin, and should have never fought ward untill the moment of cashing out at the end of his career, he's not as good as he thinks he is.
Kovalev was the one who started all of the character assassinations by acting like Ward was the one who formed all of the scorecards. The fight was promoted poorly for sure I think Hearn would have done well with it too, but to be fair it was Ward who caused the numbers to drop because he didn't sign the rematch immediately. However he got himself a great deal which was not dependant on the ppv revenue so well done to him.
My take is: Ward was the better man that night, and was going to win irrespective of the controversy about the stoppage. There were a few shots during the fight that strayed low, and the last blow was clearly (albeit unintentionally) low so Kovalev fans have some right to feel aggrieved. Kovalev was done even before it landed, I agree, but stopping it with the last shot being a low blow wasn't a great decision.
Nah , Hearn is talking nonsense. He said GGG vs Canelo wouldn't do more than 150k buys on SBO and thats a bigger attraction. Ward Kovalev wouldn't sell any units on SBO. He saw the viewership it had on regular Sky , thats why he said the Golovkin fight would do so poorly.
I guess you forgot that his Russian promoter Egis Klimis never paid him a cent when he was on the way up. Apparently the the people who are out to get him are are the same people who made him a millionaire.
