I find it interesting that tthe outcome of this fight was studied under a microscope to the 10th level. Many have said to beat the champion you have to do so convincingly . Looking back at the Fury win few questioned why a poor performance like Fury was enough to take a decade reighning champs belts from him. Many complained also Ward didnt land much effective punching from body shots ,certainly there was limited effective ones outside holding and hitting which arent scored . Now rewatching the Wlad fight i noticed he had landed the cleaner punches and Fury did land 20 more INEFFECTIVE outside taps and most of his punches were picked off or missed in hind sight that were looked to have landed So the questin is why did the media/fans not observe a much easier fight to score with much less punching but went life and death with stating a case for Kovalev ? Wlad pressed Fury for 12 rnds and landed the better shots.
Simply because most people, including myself, had Fury beating Klitschko whereas far fewer had Ward over Kovalev.
On my score cards there was not much in the rounds. I score draw rounds where there is no clear winner. I score on clean effective punching, as well as control pace aka ring generalship. I feel like the fight was Wlads to lose. he did not do enough to press the issue. I scored the fight a draw or slightly lean to Wlad, but up re-watching it, I lean slightly to Fury. The reason why everyone was OK with the decision is that Wlad was trying to survive. that type of negativity puts you across to the fans and the judges as the loser. Whereas Kov was always pressing the action, Thats the difference, one champ was happy to live, the other was trying to win
good post ,i feel though the media is blind.Wlad should have won that fight if you actually look at the punches that were landed and ones that didnt. Tough fight to score had to view some punches like 10 times bc of how each was reacting to the punches coming at them..lol
Wlad has been taking chances for years with his negative fighting style. Fury managed to land enough to turn the tables on him. If there is a rematch, I hope that Klitschko lets his hands go for a change.
