Poor fight, no question. Ward just doesn't have the power to put guys away. And Brand has only been knocked down once. Kovalev is definitely more prepared after Chilemba though...

He looked a little rusty in the first few rounds but quickly came around imo. I don't think the lack of a KO is alarming at all. I don't think the lack of a knock down is alarming either.

He doesn't indeed box better than Kovalev, that doesn't guarantee a victory though.

Actually, I'm being pretty objective. Ward just fought an absolute tomato can and looked average doing it.

We had similar from Ward fans when Kovalev looked rather poor against Chilemba a couple of weeks ago.

Difference between Ward and Kov's last fights is that Brand is a 40 year old bum and Chilemba is a pretty good fighter.

Kovalev fought a real fighter and knocked him on his ass and beat him up.
Ward looked like an overhyped feather fisted frustrated outfeinted mess with his air shots against a 39 year old nobody.

Ward is dead meat. No way he is going to fight Kovalev.

Yeah, good thing Kovalev doesn't evade shots quite like that. He will be a much easier target.

I have not yet watched this fight.

However, Brand is no can. He is fringe contender level and always in great shape with a good chin.

After the Chilemba fight, I thought this was like 60-40, maybe even 70-30 for Ward. But he's so featherfisted, unless Brand has an iron chin. Being featherfisted is a problem even if you are just looking to outbox, you need some sting. I still see this as a 50-50 fight because Ward won't be looking to KO Kov and will be very defensive, and he's good at that, he can still beat Kov in a stinker.

I have to say though, that did not look good for Ward. Not a lot in his ****nal, looked limited. This guy was there for the taking.
