The thing is I think you're somewhat underrated his power. Obviously he's not the heaviest handed fighter in the world but I think he has enough boxing to do damage to keep fighters off of him.

The only fighters who would represent the challenge you're signifying is Abraham, Froch and Andrade.

Bute ran out of gas and took alot of shots. I dont see Ward taking alot of shots from anyone. I dont see any of the 168 guys as huge bangers anyways Im not sure that many of the fights that we can come up with would end with one shot knockouts. With that being the case a guy like Ward maybe the hardest one of them all to beat. Im not saying that IS the case, but it maybe the most likely. Also keep in mind that Ward countered the **** out of Miranda when he did throw shots, so really the more you throw the more he will hit you. And dont be confused Ward has some power.

The biggest knock I have with Ward tonight is he gets kind of lackadaisical in there. Even with his great defense, he will get outpointed at the top level by the busier, more active fighters.. He really slowed down his workrate after the midway point. I know it's natural when you're leading on the cards by a wide margin to get complacent, but the guy could've applied more pressure when he felt he hurt Miranda. I really feel he would've stopped Miranda if he simply threw more punches. He doesn't have one-punch KO power, but he has enough to get his opponent's respect..

The biggest issue with Ward (if you were to nitpick of course) was the drifting straight back. Against a humbled power puncher with nothing left, You can afford to do that as he did with some frequency in rounds 9 and 10 and such. Against a guy like Librado Andrade with a masterful uppercut, it's a death knell.

That said we're 20 fights in to what should be an entertaining career. Let's not rush to annoint or damn him yet.

    Fair enough. :good

I'm just a little surprised by how much he impressed some of you guys. Miranda isn't a dynamic puncher, he's heavy handed, and he's got no defense to speak of. Saying that Ward is "ready for anybody" at 168, or will outlcass the entire division, seems kind of silly to me based on one performance against a very flawed fighter.

A fight with Froch is a coin flip IMO.

Again a knee jerk reaction some people have. I don't know if he's ready to clear out the top 10 but he doesn't have the chin or stamina issues that plagued Taylor against Froch. Then again he may not have enough power to keep him off and we get Pascal-Froch II.

The idea of this fight isn't so much "He's ready to kill the entire top 10!" but rather "He's ready to be considered amongst the best of the SMW division."

Basically he's arrived as a contender...but not as the top dog or a future champion.

Miranda definitely lost his fighting spirit. The Miranda who fought Abraham in the first fight had a killer instinct. The version who fought Pavlik and Abe in the second was already worse and the decline continues.

I agree with most of this.

Pascal's problem wasn't so much a lack of power as a willingness to exchange, which is exactly the kind of fight Froch wants. I seriously doubt Ward would take that approach. The question for him is can he be active and effective enough from range to take enough rounds, maybe even rounds fought overseas. That's a big question.

There's no way he muscles Froch around inside the way he did Miranda.

If this is the most boring fight you have seen, then you have to new to the sport. I was actually somewhat entertained when i was watching this fight, just because i knew that Miranda could turn it around at any moment because of his power, plus there was a lot of drama in it as well and high intensity.

    Not a bad fight actually.

    Ward outclassed a solid fighter.

The one sided nature made it less exciting than it could have been.

Ward could have stepped on the gas late and went for a k. o.

Outside of that he looked good.

    Wrong again.

Abraham out boxed Miranda the first fight and as a matter of fact hurt him a couple of times. Against Pavlik he only had a couple of good rounds which weren't all that good against a man who has a cast iron chin. Miranda failed to learn his lessons, he needs to pay for it. Ward failed to get the job done because he wasn't man enough to do it, not because he lacked the skill. Pep and Whitaker probably would have knocked out Miranda.

In his heart Miranda knows that he is nothing more than a dumb**** puncher. All the bluster and bravado is there to hide his inadequacy. I don't see a good future for this fool.
