Almost shut him out? Pascal was clearly ahead when the fight ended on a cut, but Dawson had been beating the bejeezus out of him for the previous few rounds. Pascal won fair and square, but wasn't particularly impressive, fighting in short bursts, which was enough because Dawson did nothing at all for the 1st 3/4 of the fight. When Dawson finally started listening to his corner and actually started fighting, he was clearly the superior fighter. Pascal deserves credit for winning the fight snd the title as he earned it, but it wasn't some masterful performance. Dawson just has no moxie and probably wasn't going to stop Pascal, as he needed to in order to win at that point.
I think you forgot to mention the fact that Dawson was on the verge of stopping Pascal in the 11th before the fight got stopped and went to decision to save Pascal. Pascal is not a quality fighter. Andre Ward is. The gap in skill and quality is IMMENSE between them. Ward would pick Pascal's sloppy ass apart. Ward vs Kov is THE fight to see. Jean Pascal is irrelevant. He wouldn't beat Fonfara.
Basically. Pascal has a puncher's chance, but that's about it. Ward's skill level is so far ahead of Pascal
Dawson has no business losing to someone like Pascal. It just shows you what a lazy, inconsistent, and passion-less fighter than Dawson can be. People talk about all these fighters having talent and skills and tools, and often times this potential is overrated. Khan and Broner are two examples. Dawson on the other hand does have a lot of talent. Maybe not insane off-the-chart talents, but certainly a decent amount to the point where he is definitely an underachiever
