As much as I'm a big fan of andre he didn't elect to face Alvarez and he was still young enough to take that challenge. I would've given him 60-40 odds too. Not withstanding the ridiculous 'draw' with Golovkin in the first fight, I think Canelo has a strong body of work which is comparable with Ward overall, yes close wins against Lara and Trout I know but many fighters have close fights. I mean Ward has a questionable 'win' over Kovalev and a borderline low blow mess in the rematch but a very impressive run at super middle. He talked about facing 'Lil G' but never did, Canelo went toe to toe twice and has a legitimate victory in 2. Imo to strengthen his legacy he needed to come back and face Alvarez after the Kovalev win, I was quite surprised he didn't take that fight tbh it made sense financially and historically but I'm also happy he is comfortable in retirement, I can't really knock him for that but it is a shame in another sense.

Though his style was something of an acquired taste, Ward was certainly crafty, tough-as-nails, and a better athlete than he's often given credit for. His ring IQ and capacity to process information in the heat-of-battle was superb.
