I wouldn't use the term "schooled" to define that fight. I thought he was a dead man walking by the start of the 3rd round, so to see him get back into the fight and actually win it was pretty amazing to watch unfold. I think I was most surprised with KOvalev's lack of conditioning in the last half of the fight; he should've taken command of the championship rounds and that essentially was his downfall. Anyway, great win for Ward. I'd love to see Kovalev fight Stevenson in the spring time with the winner facing Ward in late summer/early fall for the undisputed championship at 175 lbs.
That's why you're not an expert like us people who scored it for Ward. A lot of people just score on pressure these days, we saw the stiff Russian was plodding forward aimlessly and getting schooled.
Yes, Kovalev outboxed Ward, knocked Ward down, hurt him and should have gone for the knockout when he had Ward on ***** street. This is boxing, not wrestling. I blame Kovalev's corner for not telling him the judges were crooked and jump on the crooked Ward. Ward did not win the fight, Ward's judges did as I predicted...............Harold Lederman had the right score, 116 - 111 for Kovalev, even Roid Jones had Kovalev winning the fight...........the undercard had crooked scoring also, Hook lost badly for Perez, yet the criminal judges gave him the decision after getting out boxed.............................The crowd booed the decision..............Ward can't win a fair fight, just hold and let his judges score it for him..........
It wasn't close. Kovalev rocked Ward, dropped Ward, out-landed Ward. Kovalev was the much bigger, heavier puncher and landed more punches. Most the fight Ward fought scared and did a lot of running and holding with Kovalev chasing him.
Ward let Kovalec collect all them belts for him and then just came in and took them on his worst night Ward a G
Not true, he clinched whenever Ward got close. However that is what he was supposed to do. Stuffed Wards inside game.
Ward is complicit in a robbery. Look at Wards face after the fight. Look at Kovalevs. Kovalev not a mark on him. Ward definitely looked like someone who got their ass kicked.
Kovalev didn't like those body shots. Not one bit. Ward surprised him with the effectiveness of his body attack and Kovalev felt their effects over the rounds.
Kovalev won that fight. And if a ref that is actually strict against holding is used in the rematch... Ward is getting knocked the f**k out
exactly...ward beat that a88 from rounds 3 to 12....despite lederman's and lampley's stupid, biased analysis.
Kovalev is a classless ****.... when he lost he tried to say he wants a rematch and will kick his (wards) ass.... why didn't he do it in this fight.... after round 4....kovalev landed nothing significant..... he was scared of throwing or what? Kov faded badly down the stretch mainly due to not being used to grappling so much....even though he was very good at it
