Looking back Ward should have done many things differently...but he's his biggest enemy. He's done with 168 and best thing he can do now is to fight Barrera, a legit good 175er who's been calling him out.
we could say the same thing about ward at 160..all of golovkin's opponents react to every last one of his landed punches. golovkin is the much much much much much much much much much much much harder puncher. stop fooling yourself
If its a fighter who is in his 30's and has already climbed a few divisions yes it can be hard. Also depends on the fighter frame size and the weight he can carry comfortably.
Nothing spectacular. A Hershman idea along with an old hockey trophy he picked up at a pawn shop in AC. Tourney one mostly one dimensional fighters. Ward and Dirrel were slick, Green and Johnson were bum fillers and the rest were UK/Danish stiffs with no head movement and cement feet.
Considering Ward is making 2 million a fight when on the rare occasion he does step into the ring accepting the 50/50 split wouldn't have likely made him much more money if at all plus he'd be weight drained. It simply wasn't a viable option, why take a risky fight with a handicap for so little gain if any. If there was a fight he should have bent over backwards for it was the rematch with Froch. That would have made him millions had he agreed to fight in the UK at the City ground. He could have forced a larger share of the purse despite his low market appeal being as Froch was his mandatory challenger and that he won the first fight and was agreeing to fight on Froch's turf. He'd have made far more money than any proposed fight with Golovkin and clearly proved himself number 1 at 168lbs once again and regained much of the lost prestige due to his inactivity.
ya he could have gone to the uk to fight froch....but as I recall froch was pretty wishy washy about wanting that at all himself...didn't he say at one point there was no point really? or was he talking about a rematch in general? after seeing what happened to dirrell I don't blame andre for not wanting to go over there....even if his payday was around 8-10 mil it still is a big risk going over there to outbox someone and get hosed
IMO it would have been a mistake for Ward part. He would have got beaten by Golovkin. At 168 it would have been a good move and he would have been favorite. But like we already know, he has had problems to dehydrate down to 168 - He is LHW.
If he can't do 168 he can't do 164 I don't expect GGG to drop to 155 for Canelo if he doesn't feel he can operate at that weight; I apply that to all fighters, even if I don't like them
I think the thread should read "golovkins fans need to accept they wanted no part of an andre ward fight"....
