yeah, he should. he's beaten all the players at smw and at least there's cloud and pascal at lhw. he'd beat both of them but at least there's intrigue there. I want to see dawson pascal 2 before ward takes pascal on though.
He will never fight Bute and its not because he's afraid or anything. In order to bank some serious cash he'd have to fight in Canada and you need a passport for that.
Sadly, we all know that hometown decisions still exist. I wish it weren't true but we know the reality.
Pavlik, Froch rematch, and by then Stevenson and Oosthuizen could be decent fights. That would be about a years worth of fights, and by then Chavez Jr and Dirrell could have made some super middle noise to where fights with them could be somewhat meaningful. Nah, Id like to see Ward stay at 168 and rule for a long time to come. Got no desire to see him at light heavy anytime soon.
Well, he's already said he would only like to stay at 168 for a couple of years, and that was shortly after the Froch fight. Probably just Kelly and only one more after that(or maybe 2).
The main problem Ward faces is tha he's stuck between a rock and a hard place - if he stays at SMW, then that will lead to an inevitable showdown with undefeated Saint Georgr Groves, which won't end well for Ward. If he moves up to 175, the he's trespassing in Cleverly's turf, and that's another horrible fight for Ward
He could also stay @168 and reign.. However being a belt holder in two division would be magnificiant for his career..
Andre Dirrell vs Andre Ward is the fight ive always wanted to see . Dirrell is a lot more skilled then people think , but first i want to see the Matrix avenge that robbery by beating Froch again and then that mega fight can happen .
There's a lot to be said for reigning supreme over one division for a long time like Monzon or Haglar. And, there is a decent crop of youngsters coming up at 168 and some possible rematches. So, no, stay put. There's way to much emphasis on division hopping these days.
Why would that depend on a fight with Pavlik? Pavlik is probably not among the best 10 SMWs at the moment.... Imo. these fights are FAR better and more interesting that any Pavlik fight: Kessler in Europe. Froch in Europe. Bute in Canada. Andre Dirrell. Golovkin (catchweight) Martinez (catchweight) Others are also more competitive than a Pavlik fight.
Why move up? He has beaten the top dog at LHW and since he is still comfortable at 168 I see no rush.I'm kinda old-school is this regard. I liked how Hagler and others dominated their division for years, and it is not like there's no money to be made at SMW. In fact there's plenty and the talentpool seems quite deep as well.
If Bute defeats Froch then He could stay and beat Bute other than that maybe a fight with Direll if they are interested in fighting each others. The others can be taken as a stay busy fights like Ousthusien, Stieglitz, Edwin Rodriguez or Stevenson. At LWH He have Cloud good first match at that weight a rematch with Dawson,( do not want to see it) and Hopkins (do not want to see it either). A few more wins and Cleverly could get there too.
It is a tough call for Ward, 168 has better fighters than 175 but he already beat the best of them. I think the money and the better fights are at 168 if Ward wants them.
