im not knocking dirrell, i think hes a top talent.... but theres a difference between running, and boxing. ward showed it. I cant say im a fan of the way ward fights, but one cant deny that is damn good boxing on display. Can switch from orthodox to southpaw, has a very good snapping jab, good left hook, decent right hand, uses ring generalship with his footwork, can lead or counter.... and showed decent defence against a guy who tends to have quick hands himself. now that is what i could understand fans of the more 'sweet science' side could display as an example of 'boxing at its finest' instead of after one of their fighters actually running in the fights and just all around doing one of those type of fights that tend to look more like track meets and then saying 'this is what the sport is about, if you dont like it go watch mma' and all that ****, no.... what ward showed (besides the plentyful fouls) was boxing. again, im not trying to stir up **** or knock dirrell, he is a very good talent and the froch fight in my eyes was extremely close because of the point deduction, and although i am not a fan of his i am an excited spectator who doesnt root against him eather. But for those that think those overly defensive type fighters is what boxing is all about.... the definition of boxing is - the art of attack and defense with the fists practiced as a sport however you do that to its most effectiveness.... I think Dirrell could actually learn a lot from the way Ward fights..... learn to relax a little, take his time a bit more, not to panic when attacked as much, he needs to strengthen his legs so hes not falling about every time he gets muscled, ect.... then i see him as hard to beat for anyone. anyways, i was just thinking how ward put on a true boxing performence for the most part.... and people who like to think they are purists because they think that retreating throughout the fight and not getting hit is boxing at its best, while forfieting aggression, should really take note of what ward did and see that that is some fine boxing on display, with the main knocks being way too much holding on the inside, way way too much imo. If that was hatton in there people would be having a fit. That being said i cant take away from him the footwork, the jab, the generalship, pressing the fight when he felt he should, ect... Regardless i think Dirrell will give AA all he can handle just with his distance and speed..... and i am VERY interested to see how Ward will cope with someone faster then he is, when he fights Dirrell. anyways, good showing besides the fouls from Ward, good heart from Kessler.... and round one of super six is done. I love the tournament and cant wait for round two. again, not trying to be disrespectful.... just an observation and opinion. to me, what marquez brothers do is boxing at its best, what mab and morales would do at their best is boxing at its best. Perfect combo of offence and defence, with a blood thirsty intention. but, i can see how someone could tell me that what ward did tonight was good boxing, i admit.
Yes, he made Dirrell look really bad. It's a shame he used his head so much thought, esp, the huge billy goat. He won by headbutt, or rather headbutts. I can see why he wanted his referee and refused to fight any place except his hometown and this is the entire tournament.
not just headbutts but a lot of borderline shots, and a few just plain low blows and plenty of holding. i didnt have a rooting interest in the fight but it was a bit fustrating seeing that after it kept happening over and over and over.... but still, i think ward would have won regardless and it just added insult to injury. I dont like how ward fought exactly, but i could def see how someone could tell me that is good boxing and id have to agree (again, besides the many fouls)
A couple of throughts for me was 1) I never expected Ward to be as aggressive as he was, i mean after a few rds he had Kessler moving backwards. 2) I did not expect Ward to be throwing so wildly going for the KO, that is not his usual style. Either he wanted the points for the Tourney or he did not have any respect for Kessler's power.
in fact ive only been able to catch the first 4 rounds of miranda vs ward... but just from what ive seen from their fight miranda fought better then kessler did, and im really not being biased there, i dont think lol.
I agree; Ward looks much more professional than Dirrell. But Dirrell will learn from his loss, and, hopefully, become a bit more seasoned.
I don't see how Kessler stayed on his feet after the hardest head butt in boxing history! That headbutt was awesome. Yes, I noticed a lot of very low blows, one was below the hip, yet Ward's referee said nothing. The holding was excessive and Ward's ref tried to blame it on Kessler. I would love to see them fight on neutral territory with a neutral referee who goes by the rules. Head butts are illegal. Ward won by headbutts, so very many cuts Kessler could not see. Kessler should have know better!
Ward was smart. When he got in close he would either clinch or he would man up Kessler on the inside. Ward fought a great fight and he has won a good 30 straight rounds or so.
He didn't respect Mikkel's power cause mikkel wasn't connecting with his punches cause of wards slick style
i think i forgot how much ward held in the fight, so besides that lol.... and i had also forgot that he fights taylor next? i might not even watch that fight..... i dont think i can stomach seeing taylor get beat up much more to be honest. I think it will be a close fight for a bit but that it might turn into the kessler fight by round 6.... im not interested in seeing taylor get beat up. i would love love love it though if taylor can prove everyone wrong and somehow pull out the victory against ward.
Ward's head butts were awesome! I still can't get over his best one, the huge billy goat butt which was shown so many times on replay. Ward should get an award for butting, the hardest butt in boxing history!
Kessler never showed that he had the style to beat Ward. Anywhere on planet earth. It could be held in Denmark, with Kessler's dad as the ref, and you as all three judges and he STILL wouldn't win. He got DOMINATED. Do you understand the meaning of that word? Like what Floyd did to JMM, but way more vicious...
I agree.... though i do think Kessler could come in a rematch and do a lot better (then again i suppose it would be hard NOT to do better)
