Well he did, don't know what to tell you. Ward landed a lot more clear effective shots then Kovalev over the last 2/3'rds of the fight.
Okay. I'm being as honest as I can here, if that's contrarian then I guess I am. I do not like Ward at all, but he won the fight imo.
Technically I guess yes since most seem to believe Kovalev should have won I'm being contrarian, but I don't feel that way just to go against the grain, I truly believe Ward was the correct winner.
Well simply saying you score the fight for Ward isn't egregiously contrarion. After all like 25 percent of people did score it for him. But nobody actually says Ward won a clear undisputed decision. That's very contrarion.
Okay I can see that. A bit strong wording on my part there I admit, as it was close enough to where it could have went the other way by the actual scores, mine as well. I wouldn't have thrown a fit if Kovalev got the nod as I said I don't like Ward. I just felt after the knockdown he won the fight from that point on.
The last time I checked ward was 2-0 against kovalev. I must have missed the fight he lost to kovalev, when did this happen?
Hmmm I thought you had him winning the fight here back after it first happened. Guess I mistook you for someone else.
It was close, but Kovalev wins it on my card every time I see it. My biggest problem with the fight besides the decision was Kovalev should have won the fight going away. He was the bigger man with far more power and a better jab. He had that fight in the bag off the jab and threat of the right hand power. He was on his way to coasting to a wide decision win. But the problem was his conditioning was terrible for a fighter of his caliber. He was known to booze and was not known as a dedicated trainer. That showed up in the fight. His chin isn't the best and he doesnt take body shots too well. And his stamina has serious problems. His conditioning is trash. I'm not saying even if he trained hard and watched his diet he would have a Marvin Hagler level of conditioning. That's partly genetic. But if he had shown up in better shape he wins that fight going away.
I felt Kovalev gave it away by grappling instead of working in clinches. Had he kept boxing from mid to long range he definitely would have won.
