Yeah, I think Kova gets sold short. His mental fortitude certainly does. After having everything his way he suffered three losses and two KO's in five fights. If he was the frontrunner Ward and many others claim he is, he wouldn't bounce back at 36 with first a revenge over a guy who iced him and then the win over Yarde, where he certainly had to overcome adversity.

Yes, age has diminished him, but he still seems hungry enough to be a formidable opponent for Canelo.

The story is that Golovkin KO'd Wladimir on back-to-back days with single shots. Then they had to pull him from sparring Wilder as he broke his jaw on a light spar with 16 ouncers. Then he sparred the ghost of Primo Carnera. Iced him inside 15 seconds. That's why you haven't heard from Carnera's ghost ever since.

I 100% agree with this.. his brain is not going to recover from all of those punches he took from Yarde… and if Canelo is connecting a lot.. this could bring some bad juju to Kovalev's health

He had 1 tough round, the rest of the fight was pretty plain sailing.

At least down, yes. More like stopped. Kovalev claimed that was a lucky punch.

I had indeed always wondered why we never hear from Carnera's ghost anymore.

I think Kovalev should watch Hearns vs. Duran. Use the jab to bother Canelo and snap it when Canelo makes any move, then when Canelo steps inside throw counters. Slow the pace down for Kovalev, yet work the body and counter.

stopped? Did they spar after that? That is pretty good for a middleweight to do that to a light heavyweight. I can say this Michael Spinks would have floored GGG.

UPD. At one point they sparred a lot, but as of now Kovalev haven't sparred Golovkin for many many years.
Well, I guess Golovkin is a pretty good middleweight.
