Why is Ward training Plant? Is it because he likes him or to protect his own legacy? If Canelo gets undisputed at 168, it will ruin Ward's legacy. It doesn't matter if Plant gets undisputed at 168 because his resume is Uber drivers. Ward is currently one of the 168's two goats for me. (With RJJ) If Canelo is undisputed, my ranking may change. Thoughts?
Not at all , the guys Cinnamon has beaten to take the title aren't even on the level of Ward's second tier wins at SMW. Jealousy might be a reason though , Ward always had a chip on the shoulder regarding public perceptions on how he used to fight which was very forgettable for the casuals and remembered mostly for rough housing tactics. He's the de facto king of SMW ,with a better claim than Calzaghe due to his resume, he doesn't want to cede that in the eyes of people to Cinnamon .
Ward’s legacy is secure. He fought and defeated a murderer’s row of opponents. Canelo should be glad he did not have to face Ward .
Calzaghe has little, if any, legacy when discussing all time greats. Hiding out for a decade with the WBO is some Terrence Crawford ****. Now imagine a fighter doing that with a fraction of the talent of a Crawford. It's ridiculous. You don't go from doing that plus narrowly beating washed up ATG's to becoming a "GOAT" of anything. Slappy Joe will forever be overrated on this forum.
Ward has to garner respect for winning the Super Six. It's time for boxing fans to RESPECT pro tournament winners to a greater degree. People will hate his style as they hated Hopkins, but ultimately Ward had all the components of an ATG. That said, he lost to Kovalev in the first fight. This will ALWAYS be mentioned when discussing Ward and his legacy. It would've been better for his legacy to take the legitimate L, then win fights 2 & 3, which he was certainly capable of doing.
Two guys doing the exact same thing at the exact same time at 168 leaves both in the dark. Ottke and Ward should be ashamed they never fought to unify.
I thought the same thing, but he said "for him". In all honesty, one can argue that RJJ and Ward are number 1& 2, just as one can argue Calzaghe is #1 or 2. Sure would be great to see a mini tournament with prime RJJ, Calz, Canelo and Ward.
First of all the judges gave him the verdict over Kovalev, he did not award it to himself. He deserved the verdict over Kovalev narrow though it was and in the next fight it was emphatic and he made the bully quit.
Bad decisions happen in boxing. This was one of those bad decisions. Ward lost, and people will never forget it. I'm not suggesting Ward should have "awarded himself" the L. It would have been BETTER for his legacy if Kovalev had been given the decision he rightfully earned, and Ward had won the rematches.
The fact is Kovalev did not win the first fight. I scored it for Ward narrowly. The truth is he worked Kovalev out and won.
The majority of knowledgable people who saw the fight do not agree with your "truth". That's what I'm telling you. The fight is on youtube if you need to rewatch. You don't seem capable of absorbing the points I'm making, so let's leave it at that.
