They have similar fighting styles and both use distance very well. Ward has had the better opponents but Kovalev is slightly bigger.
It would be a great fight but I think Kovalev would wear Ward down.
I would not put any money on the fight though, just too close to call really.

too early to say for KO4Clev, he has more to prove.

At the moment Ward should beat him comfortably.

Ward would turn this into a clinch fest to avoid Kovalev's power.

Wad up HEADBANGER. I missed seeing you brilliant threads when I was on my vacation.

I prefer Ward to take this fight if he's fully acclimated to the weight. He'll need his strength to fight Kovalev in the clinch where he can neutralize some of his power

I don't think Ward should need to become acclimated to the weight because Kovalev should drop to 168 if the fight is to take place. Ward has made way too many compromises for his opponents lately and deserves to be catered to for a change

Kovalev has not fought anyone who is close to Ward's level so I would have to favour Ward. While Kovalev was impressive against Cleverley he was tailor made for him in terms of style. Ward is much better defensively and may have the skills to prevent Kovalev's power becoming a factor in any proposed fight.

And the puncher in high profile fights usually loses to the more technically sound boxer.

Ward UD. Kovalev likes to fight on the outside, Ward will be on the inside and try be as slippery as he can. Wards gonna have to be brave and will pull it off with some huge scares along the way and by clearly winning the last 4 rounds once Kovalev has tired and tries to headhunt.

Let's face it: we don't really know, both are incredible fighters, which would make for a great match up. Can HBO give us that fight?
