Hopkins started boxing before he turned ten years old. He had won several amateur tournaments before going to prison. Ward reminds me a bit of Hopkins, but I don't consider him as skilled a technician as Bernard used to be. Hopkins was a much better offensive fighter too, with a right hand that far exceeds Ward's.

I believe Ward would most likely beat that version of Calzaghe, but a prime Calzaghe would in my eyes have beaten Ward.

    calzaghe better chin, check.
calzaghe fighting on the inside and outside, check.
calzaghe same speed as ward, check.
calzaghe better crack in his prime than ward, check.
calzaghe better workrate than ward, check.
    calzaghe longer reach, check.

46-0 there is no blueprint check.

    UD DECISION CHECK>

There is an obvious answer to this question. Calzaghe would be a underdog against ant competent champion who is near their prime. Ward is a full class ahead and would walk away with this easy.

I think Calzaghe would win it on work rate, around about 116-112.

:good pretty much. don't know when calzaghe faced anyone remotely like ward. maybe old Hopkins, but he struggled against him and did very poorly. ward beats calzaghe. not easy, but not extremely difficult. 8-4 ward. calzaghe can't handle lateral movement and only fought one fighter with a defense. never fought anyone as fast as ward either.

    Correct.

    The score is reasonable too.

The Calzaghe who fought Jones and Hopkins was well past it and had zero power in his gloves..
So i give Ward a good shot here.. A prime Calzaghe would be a different story though.

Joe easily. Way more speed and athleticism than Ward. Also, much better chin.

Where is the same speed coming from? Calzaghe was one of the fastest fighters ever. Joe C at 60 is the same speed as Ward now.

Well! I think that Calzaghe was still in his prime when he beat Hopkins and Jones.

When you watch the froch v ward fight, everytime froch let his hands go ward backed up reset and then came back.

So now you have JoeCal who would be letting those slaps go for the full three minutes of every round meaning ward would be backing up reseting until the end of the fight at which point he would realise he had lost a UD.

JoeCal UD merry christmas one and all.
