I think he's ranked top 10 by 3 of the 4 organizations (but admit I might be mistaken).

It would be a good fight and it would take care of Kovalev's IBF mandatory challenger in case of a Ward win. If Barrera wins he'll be high of his victory and more confident in his fight against the Krusher.

And I guess, less risk of getting koed for Barrera ?

It's a good match-up. If I were guessing, I would have imagined Barrera would be lined up as the 2nd "tune up" before Kovalev. So if there's any truth to this being next for Ward, a surprise certainly isn't outside the realm of reason.

This a tough challenge for Ward, and a very good opponent and anyone who wants to b**** about this is out of line. I can even see Barrera beating Ward here. The way he carved through Murat was damn impressive, Murat to my knowledge as never been knocked down and he's never actually been stopped, the doctor stopping the fight against Cleverly was the most British of all stoppages. Murat is tough as nails, and Barrera blitzed him. This will be a hell of a warm up match to prepare Ward for Kovalev, because there's an actual threat to his 0 here.

I def see an upset ward relies on his strength a lot and against barrera i see him being the weaker fighter and getting bullied in there of cause he may get a decision no matter what.
Im still not convinced ward really wants to fight anymore and is more going through the motions and the years inactive may have taken a toll.

It may be just another publicity game by Ward though. It sounds like the offer was ridiculously low:

I get the feeling Ward's prime is passing him by without him truly taking advantage of it.
