I've never seen Ward at 175 so it's hard to say. I think based on the way Dawson preformed. Which over all despite being completly beaten, was pretty good. There is no doubt that Dawson would have done better at 175. However I think Ward would do pretty good at 175 too.
I think we'd be seeing an 8-4 win for Ward.

Should guys from different weight classes stop fighting eachother? It's unfair for a guy to come up one whole division, down one whole division or at a catchweight. Seriously though, coming down in weight puts you at the biggest disadvantage. With that being said, I would never pick Dawson over Ward at any weight. It's just a bad matchup for Dawson.

The weight drop actually took a toll on him which shocked me ..He was fighting on pure instinct after the 1st KD !

Dawson could barely put a decent jab or any combintaions together ..I'd love to see this @ 175 ..

I have been reading though he had a horrible camp as well .

Post fight interview - Dawson didnt really make much of the weight drop and multiple times had said before and after the fight that he made the weight comfortably.... it wasnt a strong excuse in HIS book, so it shouldnt be an excuse in any fans either. Yes, it may have been outside of his comfort zone but it should have NOT been a difference maker, according to HIS book....

I think Ward would whoop Dawson at Light Heavyweight just about the same, and i dont expect Dawson to be looking to fight him at his own weightclass lol.... the guy resigned in the fight for a reason - he knew he was outclassed and outgunned. Nothing wrong in acknowledging that and quitting after giving your best effort.....

He was weight drained, he spent more time in the sauna room instead of training. He was getting his ass beat by his sparring partners including Edison Miranda. Dawson had a very poor training camp, and it showed in the fight. Gone was the lightning quick hands, he was flat-footed, he was trying to fight Ward at his own game.

Dawson set himself up for that loss, it was stupid for Dawson to fight Ward in the first place. Knowing that and all the mistakes he shown against Ward (which were very basic), he will move back up to 175, and see what he needs to fix, because the mistakes he's shown against Ward are very fixable.

Undertand that Ward won the 2004 Olympic Gold medal at Light Heavyweight (81kilos max / 178pounds)

This means he was used to competing at Light Heavyweight in the first place.... he didn't move up going pro, he moved DOWN

he should be plenty comfortable fighting in the Light Heavyweight division after he's done with the Super Mids

And just mebbe, the level of the Light Heavyweights talent might be a little over-estimated

its sad to see hardcore fans make more excuses for their fighter, than the fighter himself. He did the training camp, not you. He did the fight, not you. He accepted his loss like a man, not you.

Yeah but the issues were with Dawson not Ward .I have no doubt that Ward can make the transition to Lt Heavy !

And as far as the talent pool well Dawson was the best of the bunch .Only time will tell if he still is after this loss ..

Dawson will lose badly by unanimous decision. If the fight takes place at 175.

Dawson can't beat young fighters. He can only beat 40 and older fighters. Maybe he should fight Evander Holyfield next.

Love asians with big breasts....but anyways!

You're right. I think as fans we all have that phase when we make excuses for our fav fighters and teams but it's really sad when its adults doing this.

As a fan I have every right to judge, and it's a fact he was getting beat by his sparring partners, I created a topic about it.

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=428940

I was skeptical about Dawson's chances in the first place. I knew Dawson was setting himself up for a loss. Nothing to take away from Ward's performance, he probably would have beaten Dawson at 175, just by the way Dawson has been fighting lately (I didn't like his performance in Hopkins vs Dawson II). There are things he needs to improve on, such as foot movement and make better use of his height and reach. And after being beaten so badly, Dawson can only improve from here.

168 definitely had an effect on Dawson, but he loses to S.O.G. at light heavy as well. Ward is just that damn good.

Great points, and I agree Dawson should have never taken this fight in the first place. The outcome was prettly clear from the beginning. The thing that bothered me is the media having a huge boner for this fight. Even this website got in on it. It was disgusting. They hyped it up like it Ali/Frazier 4.

I would have liked it better if Dawson rematch Pascal at 175 or fought Coud for the first time. Those would have been better fights. I give credit to Ward but that fight was one sided garbage. Luckily Jose and Matthyse save the night.
