:huhheadbanger you're confusing yourself at this point. taylor stepped up and faced american HOF hopkins, got knocked out and outpointed by american Pavlik. Froch and AA beat whatever was left. is this the point where i say "Pwned"?

I actually like your point that Dirrell could well have built up his resume before entering the tournament, establishing himself as a p4p contender before taking on the bigger names. He's certainly got the talent, he gave AA a boxing lesson for 7/8 rounds before it possibly started slipping away.

This is a very interesting fight. Both hugely talented and fundamentally incredibly solid. It's rare we see boxers of such good general boxing pedigree go head to head. I think Ward will win by a close decision, but as long as they put on a show and it's not incredibly lop-sided, the loser will walk away almost as big a prospect as he entered.

so u would rather they both padded their records fighting bums so they can reatain their 0's? and generate hype around an actual real fight in years top come

I gotta disagree.... Boxing should be about genuine competitive matchups I dont wanna spend my time and money watching fighters get nurtured....

If either of these guys are the real deal then their careers will stand the test of time. It should actually make them more unstoppable than they would have been otherwise had they gone the regular route of fighting a load of handmade bums to generate hype....

I think Andre ward has a bright future.... not sure bout Direll tho seems like more of a crybaby!!

hopkins is another american hypejob, feasting on fighters from lower weights, fooling a gullable american public :yep

the fact hopkins lost twice to a hypejob like taylor sums him up. hopkins also lost twice to the only 2 elite fighters that he fought at a fair weight in his entire career in calzaghe and jones - though there are question marks over his loss to jones as he is a proven anabolic steroid user and a disgrace to the sport.

the fact that taylor lost to a fellow american hypejob in pavlik is no surprise to anyone.

dirrell stepped up to euro level to face a basic euro plodder in carl froch and lost before his disgraceful feigning of injury v abraham bought him a hometown decision when he was on the verge of being knocked out.

ward is being hyped up purely because he beat a ruined kessler by headbutting him into submission via disgracefull hometown officials. there is no substance behind either ward or dirrell, they are being hyped beyond there means, in 2 years time they will be on the american hypejob scrapheap alongside taylor, lacy, and pavlik.

Dirrell reached the Ring top 10 SMW before Andre Ward, even though Ward ranks higher.

Also, Hopkins and RJJ fought each other early in their careers and both ATG's.

Also if Calzaghe fought future HOF'ers early in his career, he would have been called a glass jaw hypejob by Rico Spadafora.

If dirrel looses and gets eliminated he has the option to go after bute. Froch, Abraham, ward, bute. Whatever the outcome dirrel would have fought the absolute best and that's all we can ask.

Anyone else get the feeling that this has a few of similarities (but also a fair amount of differences) with Bradley vs Alexander?

Two great American fighters with a whole lot of potential fighting each other early in their career, title on the line, all but one undefeated (due to a bad decision :deal .) Only thing is that Ward & Dirrell are actually going to fight soon

Ward is style chameleon that makes it difficult for anyone I think he“ll find a way to beat Dirrell. but on the other hand Dirrell knows him well is an underrated puncher and probably is a slight bit faster than Ward.
I really want to see that fight even if it probably wont be a great entertaining one.

They're both good but I highly doubt they will become stars. They are both insanely boring both inside and outside the ring.

People want to watch action packed fights and knock outs. Not 12 rounds of clinching or running.

I don't really see a loss as being that damaging to either fighter.

Sure, Ward would lose his undefeated record and his belt (the latter of which he would more than likely get the chance to regain at some point later in the tournament) but at least he will have challenged the top fighters in his division.

With boxing in the state that it is in at the moment, whereby so many boxers duck top opposition and extend their records by fighting people who have a not-so legitimate chance of winning, I think respect is due to the fighters who are willing to take part in a competition featuring the likes of Froch, Abraham and Kessler. The Super Six won't do much damage to anyone...except Jermain Taylor and maybe Allan Green.

Hmm.. yea... never thought of that.. offcorse.. that makes sense..

I think you got something there.. These fighters are really boring..

Once i compared Ward to Jones.. A future Ward.. But Jones had that strange knockout hit.. He was an entertainer.. Like Tyson...

But then again.. They are 26.. 3-4 years to their prime.. Many things can change..

maybe in 4 years they are both dominating the heaviweight? Who knows :)
