A real 50/50 fight. But if Ward finds a way to smother Krusher's work and take his power away from him, then I make Andre a slight favourite. Kovalev is indeed a very good boxer but not as skilled as Ward. Krusher beats opponents by dissuading them from engaging because of what's coming back. If Ward nullifies this, I see Krusher running out of ideas.

It's like that with many boxers who have power; when the effect of that power fails to be decisive, their confidence tends to diminish rapidly. They don't tend to have a Plan B.

It will be the same with GGG when someone takes his best shots and fires back, what then?

Ok, Krusher is a more skilled defensive fighter than GGG but my gut instinct is he will run out of ideas by mid-fight and lose a close points decision.

Or he knocks out Ward in four... lol

It might have taken 2 or 3 rounds for Kovalev to dispose of Barrera, but that doesn't mean he beats Ward.
A fighter like Ward who doesn't have the concussive type power of Kovalev has to go through a process in defeating fighters.

Kovalev knocking the same fighter out early and brutally doesn't equate to victory against a fighter that had to go the distance against the same fighter.
Styles make fights, any knowledgeable boxing fan knows this.

Take away his jab and Kovalev becomes ineffective...

If they fight in Oakland Sergey will have to KO Ward. Theres no way he'd get a dec there. Regardless what happened

I think they'll have Kovalev as the favorite, the odds are in his favor. That said, it'll be both men's toughest fight and I think Ward makes Kovalev look pretty average. This will be more of a chess match than people think.

Maybe so, I don't really have an intel on the neutrality of judges there. But putting that to one side, Ward can still do enough to get the win on points on unbiased scorecards.

It's a great fight and hard to call - that's why I want to see it. I like both boxers.

No. Kovalev outworked Hopkins. He simply set a pace that the Ole' Man couldn't keep up with and did so without any regard for Hopkins' return fire. If he employs that same tactic against Ward, Andre will couter punch the sheet out of him and win an easy decision.

    Chad Dawson?

Power is *meaningless* if you can't find the target and the Ole' Man had Kovalev swinging at air all night...

If it's a chess match - and I think you might be right - Ward wins in my view. He's the best in the business at the moment at making opponents fight his fight. That might be the decisive factor.

Agreed, but I just think it's dangerous to draw conclusions from a fight with a 50-year-old man. Hopkins is a freak of nature, yes. But he's still 50!

I don't think Kovalev has the style to force it into a fight. Ward is great at controlling range and smothering his opponents attacks. This will force Kovalev to look for an opening and avoid getting countered, then it turns into a chess match that Kovalev fans will find "boring". Ward's defense is on point but he will get hit, everyone does. I'm curious how well Ward will handle Kovalev's shots. He can't avoid them 100% but he can reduce their effectiveness by "rolling with the punches", take a little steam off of them. Kovalev will go to the body, A LOT, I think. Kovalev is a pretty under rated boxer, he's not a FIGHTER like some old ass casuals claim , he's a boxer-puncher.

Tough to pick a winner, Ward isn't small despite moving up, Kovalev's power is the X-factor, IMO.

    I think ward wins

but if im setting a line id have to make kova a slight fave to open...more fights in division and hes the champ...although if it were scheduled for Oakland I might change that
