"Intangibles!" Glad you brought that up. Bernard Hopkins mentioned how polished Kovalev is. Hopkins is a man who rarely credits his opponent, but he mentioned the difficulty that Kovalev represented in the way he mixed the intensity of his punches. "Not ever punch has to be hard, and Sergey understands that. Its what makes his power feel even more powerful when he throws you several shots at 50% and then comes over with a real hard one full throttle." Hopkins was just relating that Kovalev could box and understood and knows how to manage a gameplan. You know a fighter can fight when Bernard Hopkins say's he can! :yep
I lost two bets in 12 years. First time when I bet on Tszu vs Hatton and second when I bet on Klitschko vs Fury. Second bet was small money because I felt in my heart Fury might win. My greatest regret is that my 1500 bet on Mayweather didn't go through as I bet too late. When I saw pac taking selfies I knew he was gonna lose.
Kovalev would be stupid to not think of Ward as a tough challenge. It doesn't mean he wouldn't get him out of there.
I think both fighter know that they will be pushed by the other and that each has to be in tip top shape both physically as well as mentally. Some here are thinking its going to be a borefest, I think its going to be the other way around. I believe both view this matchup as a signature fight and my thinking is that both are in it to make a statement and when that happens it makes for a great fight. Kovalev vs Ward, fight of the year, I can see that! :bbb So I hope!
Kovalev is a very scary man in the ring, hard to bet against him even if Ward is his opponent. If they both fought a perfect fight I'd go with Ward, but for now I'm going to stick with Kovalev until I see Ward in action again in his next fight.
If Kovalev has an off night and Ward is on fire then I guess Ward could win. All things being equal though, Ward gets stretchered off.
Based upon recent accomplishments combined with Ward moving up, I'd say Kovalev is the favourite, but only just. It's a tough fight to call both will be facing their toughest opponent to date when they face off.
