If Ward is favored then I will put some money on Kovalev. Probably by decision. Kovalev and JDJ might fight Ward similar to Hopkins.
Even so a boxer usually has the advantage. To beat a master-boxer you need to apply pressure and really get up in there and rough him up. Constant pressure is what boxers pure boxers.
They'll lose if they fight Ward the same way they fought Hopkins. The last thing Kovalev wants to do is to get into a boxing match with Andre Ward. He loses that prospect badly...
hard to say, kovalev has shown he can blast out clowns like notsocleverly or cowardzaghes but ward is a different kettle of fish. BUT its kovalevs division, so hes fav for that.
Maybe not exactly like Hopkins but something similar. Andre Ward will probably be expecting Kovalev to come out with pressure. Ward said in the post fight presser that he's beaten many power punchers and Kovalev isn't much different from the other guys he beat like Miranda, Kessler, Abe and Froch.
Yeah, and I would agree. I think Kovalev is something like Froch only not as skilled but with more power. For Kovalev, pressure is not going to be enough. If Kovalev thinks he can just come forward and impose his will, Ward is gonna counterpunch the sheet out of him and put an end to that REAL quick. If he wants to win, he'll have to lay some leather on Ward and I just don't see that happening enough over twelve rounds. On a side note, did anyone else catch the Duva/Kovalev interview where Kovalev is eating a sandwich while Duva and his manager are talking? Not a good look, IMO...
I beg to differ. Skill and power beats skill alone. Kovalev has both, Ward only one. As I said, both are terrific fighters, but the "Ward winning" scenario has too many "Ifs" One's usually too many and in that fight, I think this will be the case. In case you've misunderstood me - this is no disrespect to Ward.
If that is your knowledge of boxing, I'd pass on further discussions with you.. No offense meant, you may skip my posts too.
Kovalev is the favorite. He is the established dominant champion in the bigger division. 60-40 maybe 55-45 it should be close but Kovalev should be the favorite.
Styles make fights, Genius - and in the skills department, Ward is at least a few tiers above Kovalev. The Eastern Europeans for the most part ALL fight the same exact way. Straight up and down come forward with essentially no side-to-side movement. No angles, no imagination or creative processes in their style - just come forward, seek and DESTROY [mostly TOMATO CANs]. Ward will present a puzzle to Kovalev that he will be unable to solve...
No. Kovalev is neither the established champion nor is he dominant @ 175. Stevenson is the established LINEAL and legitimate champion @ LHW...
