Most are saying Kovalev won and have very valid reasons. Every fight breakdown where they actually analyze the fight supports Kovalev winning. Most people knowledgeable about boxing gave the fight to Kovalev by as wide as 117-110. You don't really get credit for simply not getting knocked out, lol. So Ward got up and kept fighting. Good. He's a ****ing boxer. You don't get credit for doing something that you are already supposed to be doing.

The narrative was that Kovalev is some Russian powerhouse that knocks out people with one punch and is a monster that can only win by brute force while Ward is a master boxer that would be able to use his skillset to overcome Kovalev... that isn't even what this fight was. Also Kovalev isn't really bigger than Ward. Nearly identical reach, same height. Kov's fight night weight is probably a little bigger than Ward's but it isn't a huge difference if there is one at all. Other fighters overcome MUCH more. As far as physical dimensions go, they were pretty close to equal.

...Ward did most of the clinching. There were tons of low blows. The "Great body work!" that most Ward fans are talking about were actually mostly lowblows. There are videos proving this. It was blatant, it was excessive. The low blows, holding, holding and hitting, headbutts- attempted AND landed, rabbit punches, punches to the back, and punches to the kidney, were happening all night and should have had points deducted. Boxers literally get disqualified for less. Another poster here has already explained one foul in particular much better than I have articulated.

The ref did a terrible job. If there are several fouls happening your job as a referee is to stop that and let it be a good clean boxing match. That was not what this was.

Frankly, I think that you either don't understand boxing or that you are being dishonest in your thoughts of this fight. Also I don't see why so many people picked Kov by KO. Worse fighters than Ward was thought to be survived with Kovalev so I don't see why it was out of the question for Ward to do so.

A ridiculous response to Flamazide's extremely well written rebuttal.

    Agree.

You have to accept that most of the Ward nuthuggers don't know anything about boxing. They're like Ronda Rousey fans. Love to jump on the hyped up bandwagon.

Ward headbutted the living crap out of Kessler and it was called a masterful performance. He tried it against Kovalev who knew it was coming and protected his head from getting cut. Those "headlocks" dont even cause damage. Ward's headbutts, at least one of which did land against Kovalev, do cause damage.

Hitting off the clinch is not even a scoring punch. Yet I keep reading about the masterful inside work.

If the ref and judges weren't paid off this wouldn't have been an issue. It would have been a dq loss for Ward or a clear decision.

Before the huthuggers respond, go and read the rules of boxing.
