He didn't look old to me when he beat up Dubois.

    He was 38.
He'll be 39 or 40 if he fights Wardley.

    It's old for a boxer.

I'd also add that Tyson was arguably the most recognizable sports star on the planet at that point; boxing is unlikely to have another fighter that is as commercially successful and recognizable ever again. Everyone knew who he was. Given Tyson's marketability at the time and his global popularity, that alone puts the upset on an entirely different level. Nobody in the US knows who Usyk is, outside of real boxing fans.

This shows the decline of the sport and the HW division in itself, but Wardley is a legit, live, dangerous guy who hits like a mule, and is fresh and hungry. Douglas had multiple losses to inferior opposition and went into the fight against a version of Tyson that was considered bulletproof. Despite what some people on this forum believe, Usyk is not bulletproof or perfect. While I'd never pick Wardley to beat him, it also wouldn't be a surprise to me if he pulled it off, given that Usyk would be 39/40 when they fight.

Wardley’s destiny will not be denied. He’s going to be the guy who retires Usyk. Usyk is going to piece him up, but at some point a beat up and bloodied Wardley is going to absolutely paste Usyk. Won’t even be a stoppage, Usyk will be counted out.

It’s written into the fates or something. Wardley’s dad should smack Wardley’s mom, because Wardley is no son of a man. Mom got busy with Ares or something.

that was the singular best southpaw jabbing performance at HW ever, I think. He crushed Dubois’s soul with those punishing upward spear jabs he kept landing. You could see Dubois really, really being bothered by them.

    No it isn't

Usyk is 38 and him declining isn't so far from the realm of possibility

I actually decided to watch Tyson vs douglas back and, Bob Sheridan does a wayyyy better job of calling the action than the HBO crew. I had the original VHS with Sheridan commentary. The HBO one sucks in compairson.

Remember Buster Douglas was ranked like 8th in the world, and was seen as a mere tune up against a undefeated wrecking machine who was truly the boxing champion - not just at HW but also the P4P. Also, Douglas was a 42/1 underdog.

Whereas, Wardley has got the power to hurt anyone at HW. He is the number one challenger hence beating a serious challenger in Parker. And is about a 6/1 underdog. With a lot of the UK behind him too.

You are correct especially since its been established Usyk has a good chin. Wardley has 2 title wins he was losing both before he had a come from behind knockout. Wardley hits hard but if he lands his shot Usyk is probably going to get up and win regardless. Theres no reason to think Wardley can outbox Usyk if he can't outbox Huni and Parker. Theres no reason to think Wardley will knock out Usyk if Usyk went 38 rounds with AJ and Dubois and got put down once.

Douglas was a 42/1 underdog mainly because he was Tysons 11th title opponent not because he compared badly at all with the other 10. Still the betting public was wrong to have him as a 42/1 dog and they'd still have been wrong if Tyson had won because Douglas.

Joey made a good point that Usyk is at an age where one can drop off any fight. Wardley fight is 2 or 3 fights away if it happens at all. So there is this that.

Usyk is nearly 40, and Wardley just beat Parker whom some argued was the second-best heavyweight in the world in a highly competitive seesaw fight in terms of rounds and action.

Would Usyk vs Parker have been a bigger upset than Tyson vs. Douglas? Obviously not, and Fabio just beat Parker, so your opinion makes very little sense. If anything, Fabio has a marginally better chance than Parker, or at least as good a chance, as he's an elite puncher. it is extremely unlikely that anyone is outboxing and winning more rounds than Usyk. However, roughing him up, pressuring him, and KO'ing him? Still highly unlikely, but Fabio would have a better shot at doing that than Joe Parker ever did.

True but he's fighting once a year and we know he struggles with getting his body injury free.

A big drop off from one fight to the next ("age catching up with him") at this stage would not be a shock at all.
