anyone who thought groves schooled degale doesn't know **** about boxing. every judge had it a close fight, the commentators had it a close fight, and you know why, that's because it was a very close fight. I thought some of you actually knew your boxing on here.
Plenty do. The reason DeGale's getting a kicking is because he said he was going to have an easy night's work. He didn't. He got shown up somewhat by a guy simply keeping it at range. His flurries later on were slapping and, even worse, barely landed. That's why it's easy to pick at him. it was a close fight, because of the way Groves fought and DeGale's cluelessness.
Warren is full of **** sometimes, Very close fight but Groves did the better more accurate work. More Punches More Punches Landed Better Punch %. Personally from memory Degale won 2 rounds, Groves 3 rounds and rest imo could have been scored draws so probably correct result in end.
Groves just took the play away from DeGale and he didn't know what to do. He probably trained for the string puppet that fought Anderson, wasting loads of energy and having no guard. Instead, he got a counterpuncher with a high guard using good lateral movement. DeGale won a couple of rounds clearly, but there's a limit to what you can score on ''aggression'', he was just following Groves around the ring, and being made to miss a lot. The stats surprised me, I thought Groves outlanded him by a fair bit, not just the odd punch per round. Reminded me a bit of Leonard vs Hagler actually, the way the fight panned out. One guy moving a lot and the other starting really slowly, before the tide turned as the fight went on. ---------------------------------- A lot of people just love a Frank Warren fighter being beaten on their own show, especially by their most bitter rival. DeGale didn't know where to put himself afterwards.
I can see this as negative for Degale, all his yes men will keep saying he won he won he won. So they don't do anything, think he got lazy or something. Warren, McDonnell and Degale completely underestimated Groves and his skills, as well as Booth's tactical planning. That is it, they probably watched the Anderson fight only, thinking he was some bum. I can see Warren in his column saying Groves got lucky and must rematch Degale. But we all know if it was the other way round Warren would say something like: 'I see no point in a return match, Degale was not focused and beat him anyway, a rematch would be too one-sided and have no merit'.
DeGale was let down last night by a poor corner, he was in great shape but they couldn't adapt to a different Groves. The DeGale camp as i see it went in with to much arrogance and believed they were to good for a gameplan and when things were coming unstuck McDonnell didn't know how to change things!!
This:deal Plus george should take a leaf out of degales book and not give him another payday. If it was the other way round no way would Degale give groves a rematch.
